APRIL CONTEST VIDEO CRITIQUES!
-
Hi everyone! For April's contest I decided to do something a little different. I decided to do a video critique of all 58 entries! Whew! Not easy and I'm losing my voice from it, but it was so great to see all the wonderful work that you guys did!
The crit video is FREE for anyone to view and can be seen here:
https://courses.svslearn.com/courses/april-contest-critiques
If you are an svs member or have been in the past, just login with your regular login info. If you aren't a subscriber and don't have an account on our class site, you can sign into a new account for free. You just have to make up a user name and password.
Hope you guys like the crits as much as I liked seeing all your work. I ask a lot of questions in the crits and ask students to try different things. I'd love to hear what you think of any of the suggestions I had. : )
Cheers,
Lee -
@Lee-White Holy smokes, get this guy a throat lozenge! That was insane. Thank you for the great critiques Lee!
-
@Lee-White Hold on did you do this in like a day?
-
@Aleksey I did it all in one sitting! : )
-
@Laurel-Aylesworth Thanks Laurel, hope it was helpful in some way. : )
-
@Lee-White awesome, now just need to find time to watch!

@Lee-White ...capricorns

Thanks for doing this -
@Lee-White well Dang! This was the first month I haven't entered. Hahaha! Oh well. Thanks for your commitment to us.

@Lee-White Thanks so much for the encouraging words and the critiques. I’m really trying to get my illustration career up and running and your help is incredibly valuable to me. I’ve already started to thumbnail a couple of different gestures for the frog. I’ll post them in the forums and see what resonates. Thanks again for taking the time and giving me feedback.

@Lee-White Thanks for doing this! The woman is actually setting a trap in mine (#19 - the vampire one). She has a wooden stake in her hands and can see incoming footprints from the window. I was trying to make it visible, but without being too obvious. Any bonus tips on how to achieve that would be appreciated.
The lighting and mirror tips are noted! I was planning to put some vanity items (brushes, jewelry box, and whatnot) on the dresser but ran out of time.

@Lee-White THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for doing this for us! You are amazing! We all know you are so busy and your time is so precious. Thank you for sharing your time and critiques with us and thank you for being encouraging and helpful as always.

@Lee-White is a steely-eyed missile man!
Thank you so much for doing this. I’m getting a lot of good notes, not just from mine, but from the reviews of everybody’s art. This is an incredible opportunity. -
@Lee-White This was so helpful watching the critique marathon. I was mean't to be doing some other work. But it was worth stopping and listening to what you had to say about all the pieces. Hats off to you
for being a top teacher.

I've only watched 6 minutes of this but I'm pretty sure I'm about to binge-watch every video critique. Thank you so much, @Lee-White. This is an amazingly generous gift and educational opportunity.
Update: Just finished watching (it's just past midnight and my mind is so buzzed that I'm not even sleepy:). Highly recommend watching through each one. It'll not only help you with your own work, but you'll also learn from a pro critiquer how to give effective and encouraging crits.

@Lee-White said there was no winner this month but I think we ALL won!
-
@StudioLooong I agree 100%.

@Lee-White thank you so much for the critique. I had considered the rearranging of the characters as you suggested. To explain though, the idea was originally for the mouse to be riding the owl, but then switched it to show the mouse waiting for his ride, thus the sedentary position of that character. I do find it fun to play around with the natural rolls of characters, placing them in less common situations. Thank you again very much and very appreciated.
-
@StudioLooong Absolutely! I learn so much from hearing everyone’s critiques and appreciate honest,professional eyes on my work too. We all won!
-
@Lee-White thank you so much for the crits. Love love love it. I can not believe that you did this - all 58 entries.

Thanks for the crit @Lee-White gave me some good ideas. I like your intro too gives you a simple (seemingly haha) approach to creating a better image. Awesome
