    • RE: APRIL CONTEST: Lisa's robot invention worked great, until it did this...

I don’t know why but it keeps uploading it very blurry but when I click on it it looks good. Can someone tell me if it looks blurry to them?

    • My art got selected to be in an exhibit!

Hi y’all. A milestone has been reached and I wanted to share it on here because a lot of my motivation and drive comes from the people here on svs.

One of my Baba Yaga pieces was selected to be in an exhibit at The Art League in Alexandria, VA. If anyone is in that area it’s going to be up September 12th (along with lots of others) at 6:30pm till October.

Here’s the piece that was chosen.

I was also selected to give a talk at their reception but sadly I won’t be able to travel on such short notice because of work and monies. But super happy that my progression is real.

    • RE: JANUARY PROMPT "BIG"

caring for livestock, gardens, and bringing luck to all in the town, is a big job, so they deserve to end the day with a big drink. Just one is enough.
Pencil and brush pen, then scanned and colored digitally.

    • RE: March Prompt "Book Cover"

I decided to do an old Grimm’s Brothers story because I’ve been practicing my pen and ink skills and my style seemed to fit with those better. This was done with a pen nib the colored digitally.

This was so tough to upload in decent quality because of the size restrictions. I think i might avoid doing another long spread next time. (actually looking at it in a new window it looks fine so i take that comment back)

    • RE: Art schools for me!

@krish-iyer many colleges have international students, if you’re in the US, you take the SATs first then get in to the college. I recommend finding some colleges you like and emailing their admissions office and asking them what international students require. They will then recommend you speak to an advisor for what you want to pursue. Im currently in the Fashion institute of technology. Its in NYC and is one of the more affordable colleges. SVA used to have a more rigorous program but I dont know what its like now. California has better art schools from what I hear. Art Center seems to be one of the better ones. But still, go through there catalogs and see which colleges offer what classes and programs.

Dont be afraid to ask the administration questions, they are there to help you.

If i could i would go to an art school in europe.

@Griffin so then are you thinking of style as a shorthand way to solve that problem? Cause i think theres a better solution

@Griffin i see, so you’re more concerned about consistency in your work rather than visual problem solving am i right to say that?

May I ask, what does it look like when you draw without a style? Like if you take style out of the equation entirely, what does your art look like?

I think something that helped me when i had burn outs, and they happen to everyone i think every so often, was not just take a break and ENJOY the break but also before getting back into the swing of things was to really re-evaluate what I enjoy about art and why I had a burn out in the first place.

    • What I learned this year

      Hi yall,

I haven’t posted on the forums for a very long long time. I thought I’d share what I’ve been upto in my learning journey and my creative journey. I thought since it being December its a good time to reflect and share, as well as encourage anyone else that wants to share their learns.

      Learning journey:
I started attending the Fashion Institute of Technology this Fall semester, in their illustration program. Started exploring mediums and learning skills in school I wasn’t familiar with:
      Pastels
      Conte crayons and charcoals
      Graphite only value sketches
      Toned paper
Differences between synthetic brushes, sable hair, and squirrel hair brushes.
      Tried sculpting with various materials

During inktober I also jumped into using watercolor before actually learning much about the medium. I came out with some nice drawings, some i love, some I dont, but overall it was an expensive that taught me to explore the unfamiliar. It’s has made me want to make my comic in watercolor.

      Creative journey:
I finished writing a script for my web comic, thumb-nailed out several pages, and worked with an editor to make it cohesive and the way I want.
