Featured Student For April
-
Sorry this is a little late this month!
Interested in a chance to get your work featured in the Student Art Gallery on the SVSLearn.com homepage? To be considered share some of your best work (1-2 images) on this forum post. Make sure to share your image during the first 10 days of March to be considered for April. Also, make sure your images are at least 800 pixels on the shortest side and do not exceed 1mb in size.
Work will be selected based off of how well the work uses the following:-
Concept: how well does your illustration convey a clear concept. Is it a unique approach? Does it make me want to know more about what is happening in the illustration?
-
Technique: How is the composition working? Does it have good use of lighting, rendering, mark making, etc.? Does the technique compliment the concept?
If you are selected, we will message you using the chat feature on the forum. Besides your art being displayed on the homepage, you will also be sent some questions for a Q&A blog post that will be shared on SVSLearn.com.
Iām excited to see your work!

This is an illustration I did for my first childrens book.

@AustinShurtliff do you have to be a subscriber still or can you be still learning after the courses. As I'm not a subscriber but I'm still working on what I learnt from the classes.
-
Here are a few recent pieces I'm proud of:
-
Here are 2 illustrations that are a direct result of everything I've learned from SVS....
-
@Jason-Bowen you do not need to be a current subscriber to submit a piece for consideration. Anyone that uses any of the resources from SVS (including the forum) is welcome to submit something. Let me know if you have any other questions!

@kylebeaudette - fun to see some clay mixed in with the other mediums on this page. I really love these characters you've developed!

Here are 2 of my pieces, one is my take on Little red riding hood and the other is titled Toxic Wasteland and depicts a kid in the future in a desolate landscape looking back at species who are extinct due to deforestation.
I've recently started taking SVS classes and it feels really good relearning things I would have studied a long time ago. I started with the light and shadow class and thought do i need to do this I know all this and boy was I wrong, it was so good refreshing old skills and picked up loads of new things along the way.
-
I think these are currently my strongest 2. Thanks svs! -
@Phil-Cullen I absolutely love both pieces, especially the second one - it's so powerful and the colours and details are just fantastic!

My best work so far, working on characters...

I live in Minnesota, and we've had ... well ... a TON of snow this winter. (And another storm is forecasted for this weekend.) My 4-yr old likes to help me shovel.
I also take part in an open artists prompt on Instagram from The Monster Project called Monster Project UNITE, where kids submit a monster drawing and then artists re-interpret and re-imagine them. Here is my latest one, along with the original.
(As a side-note, Monster Project UNITE is a lot of fun and I would recommend taking part. It's interesting to take the seed of an idea from a child's drawing and running with it. And, often times you'll hear back from the kids or their teachers about how much they like the different artists interpretations.) -
@Phil-Cullen I really love the wolf character design. So cool. The little is too. Nice work all around!
