Love this image. I think you have the colors working well and I think the characterization of the lion is very successful. I do have a couple of suggestions. I think it would look better if the hands were slightly more paw-like. I also question how the back foot is making contact with the board. I've never been short-boarding before, but wouldn't the bottom of the toes be making contact with the board, even in a dropped knee position? The way they are now, it looks like he's getting ready to fall into the water, rather than having the ability to carve through the wave after this moment.

Anyway, great job! This is really appealing!

@laurel-aylesworth Yes It is a filter in photoshop called "cutout" - I set it to 5 and then convert to black and white - it is a trick Lee shared a while back - really shows if we are getting the values right - thanks for the compliment too - I always hesitate to post draw overs 🙂

@tessw Hi Tess - this is such a fun piece! It's really professional too. I did a minor paint over to show how I would color the rug. To me - it's stealing from your accent colors a little. This is such a good piece. My suggestion would be that the white on the parents is a bit bright and the white on the bird leaving is a bit gray. I think if you switch that the baby bird will pop out even more and mom and dad will recede a bit, to emphasize the leaving. Love this one, captures a really good independent moment we can all relate to.

Hi there, I think you are asking the same question that we all have asked sometime to ourself. 🙂
In my humble opinion, your work is enough professional.
But, I think you should to take some art classes, I recomend you "Choosing Colors for Storytelling "... it´s really helpful.

I've changed a few of the things you suggested, except for moving the table and dad forward. I'm thinking the blank table is my text space. I also changed the baby to a more active independent role.

My next steps are going to be adding color and value.

I'm agreeing with some of what @tombarrettillo has pointed out.

The helmet does seem a bit large, but perhaps that was intentional? It's hard to know without what your other work is like.

-The top foot placement also seems awkward to me. I feel like there should be some indication of a foot rest.

-The shadow feels a bit oppressive. I would think about lightening it up and introducing some subtle color into it, and adding some gradation to the background might make it feel a bit more polished.

This was an ambitious drawing to take on, so well done for seeing it through!
