showcasing our process?

Hi SVS people!
Since many of us have some free time these days...
Would anyone be interested in getting together to do short little webinars of our own to showcase our own personal art process?
Every time, (EVERY TIME) I watch someone work, I come away with another piece of the puzzle (and sometimes I even see where it's supposed to go!) Doesn't matter who it is, or what kind of style and medium they work with I always come away with something.
Would anyone be interested in getting together on a google hangout or zoom (restricted to 40 minutes though sadly) and sharing your screen as you draw?
I'd imagine it could work much the same as the SVS crew showcase with one person drawing and explaining and one person watching the chat to field questions.

@Braden-Hallett would it be just drawing? Or trying to finish a piece? I could see this being a series (especially because you only get 40 min. And we all know it can take longer than 40 to do a finished piece ).
It is such a fun idea!
-
@Braden-Hallett Oh that sounds fun, and I'd like to showcase! I'd have to steal my boyfriend's microphone but that can be arranged lol
-
Hi @Braden-Hallett, maybe we can share a recording of our pieces with voice over? Iβm down for that, but live painting maybe not so much since I donβt have much free time at the moment. Iβm busier than before with this damn virus...
-
This sounds really interesting!
-
Zoom has updated to allow for more than 40 minutes!
-
Great idea! There's always something to be gained by observing someone do their thing. I'd definitely tune in.
-
It sounds fun. I'd tune in!

@Braden-Hallett
My process is still in development I am afraid but I'd be interested in tuning into a couple.

@EliaMurrayArt Were you there for Will's videos the past few days? I believe he had everything done already, but demonstrated the process in little chunks, where he could show the technique, but then already had layers saved that was the finished product of the technique. He said a piece like the one he was working on would normally take around 20 hours. It was still very informative.
This may be a way for others to model their demonstrations.
-
@TessaW oh yeah! Definitely a good way to showcase.
-
My internet connection is super de duper slow and I'm a technological idiot lol. I'm not sure I could figure it out. Maybe it's easier than I think?
-
I am really interested in how other artists work, like always want to see behind the scene. But I have a hard time imagining myself doing a showcase in 40mins and make it interesting for others to watch. I could easily spend 40mins not coming up with anything that I am remotely satisfied. I do not mind sharing my process for 40 minutes at all, but I am just worried it would be so boring to watch.
-
I'm more than willing. My only concern is that I'm still working out what my process actually IS. So I could share what I do today right now which might be different in a month from now
-
I love this idea, Braden, great suggestion and I've love to see your process since your art is amazing, and there's so much we could learn from each other in this SVS community for sure. I don't feel like I have a lot to share but I'd be happy to give it a go. I'd be more inclined to want to pre-record rather than go live (I get nervous), especially since I think I work a bit more slowly than a lot of other artists I know.
I also have no idea about how to do it, e.g. what recording app to use and what hardware, such as microphone or whatever. Anyone got some good advice or links to good tips on how to set up and record tutorials or time lapses etc?
-
@MattBaker replying to my own comment here, looks like I can screen record with Quicktime on my Mac and use my computer's somewhat tinny microphone for sound.
I'd still like to know what the more professional setups are for this kind of thing though
-
I would like to share because Iβve gotten good feedback on some of my short process videos with watercolor. Although, I GUARANTEE that it will be poorly recorded with long awkward silences.

Whatever you wanna do! I myself would have a piece set up in layers to turn on as I went to show my process

If that's something you'd like to do, that'd be awesome too I'm sure!

Their 'plan' still lists the free plan as 40 minutes

It's exactly what I was thinkin

Tune in for the first one and if it looks like something you'd like to do, then we can set it up I'm sure!

Even if the session turns into a Q+A while someone doodles, it's still at the very least fun

Cool cool!

If that's what you're comfortable with, then that's awesome We can post the link to the vid and then people can watch and post questions in a thread.

yay! This is par for the course most of the time, lol

@Braden-Hallett Setting up a piece in layers to turn on layer by layer to show process is a pretty great way to do it, I reckon, thumbs up.
-
This sounds like a great idea @Braden-Hallett ! I'd definitely tune in. Would love to see how other artists work. Maybe when I gain a little confidence in showcasing my process, would try a pre-recorded session or a pre-illustrated session and describe it layer wise.
