Hi, everyone's doing such great illustrations!
I'm currently going slowly through the Painting With Colour & Light course, trying to lift my game in that area,
A friend and I are currently collaborating on a comic book about the story of Samson, just for a fun project. It's more for teens/young adults, not for little kids. So here's our latest piece from it. Still got a lot to learn about colour and light but hopefully I'm improving I hope it's not too violent for this forum!

RE: AUGUST CONTEST: Dragonfly
For this one I made a little story involving my kids, so if nothing else, they'll be amused
Attempted traditional media for the characters; watercolour base and prismacolor pencils over the top in places. Tonnes of room for improvement but I enjoyed the experiment. -
RE: MARCH CONTEST: Everything was rattling, falling apart and breaking!!!
"Everything was rattling, falling apart and breaking. Buzz started rethinking his life choices."
I was already working on this piece for a project, but thought it might (loosely) fit the theme?
Still struggling with aspects of this piece, might make some changes. -
RE: Our SVS Virtual Studio JUNE π 2019
This looks fun, so much exciting art on this thread.
I've been working on evolving my style lately, by experimenting with a variety of digital brushes and attempting to bring a rougher and simplified look to my work, less line art and more selling the image with shapes, light and textures. Still learning but hopefully getting better, looking forward to taking some SVS classes to improve. I've always struggled with colour and light and used to be all about just colouring inside my own linework, but am trying to change and improve.https://www.instagram.com/mattbakerfineart/

RE: Our SVS Virtual Studio SEPTEMBER π¨ 2020
I STRUGGLE SO BAD WITH COLOUR & LIGHT, SO I'm doing the 'PAINTING COLOUR & LIGHT 2.0' course by Will Terry, which is excellentΓ©, and trying to apply the concepts to some illustrations I'm doing for a friend's self-published insect fantasy (demographic 9-13 yr old boys). The front cover's been fun because he wanted it loosely styled on the poster art for the 1990's movie 'Army of Darkness', anyone remember that one? Might have gone a bit nuts with texture's and grit and FX, but I love all that stuff

RE: My Psychotically late start to the August Dragonfly fun
Making progress but dang, do I miss the Control-Z function!
Traditional can be SO much more frustrating than digital at times, am I right?
Starting to add some coloured pencil over the top of the watercolours. I'm going to do the background separately, because I'm too fearful that I'm going to murder the whole thing with the background. Playing it a little bit safe, you might say. -

Hey, great art by everyone, always so inspiring to see what others are up to.
I've been working on a project for Samaritan's Purse, and the tricky thing about it is that it involves reworking & making changes to existing artwork by the original artist. So basically I need to try my best to match the style of the original art, which is different to my own style. I'm enjoying it though, and I feel like I've learned things from talking to the original artist and collaborating -
My Psychotically late start to the August Dragonfly fun
This may end up looking like a total dog's breakfast.
I didn't think I'd have time to enter this month and I might still be right! However, thought I might use this month's challenge as an opportunity to get away from pixels and back to traditional for a second. Not only that, but also try some pencil on watercolour stuff, which I'd like to get (much, much) better at.
So here goes, here's my cleaned up linework that I've light boxed onto watercolour paper, and I'm just about to bust out my watercolours, erk! Wish me luck?
Oh, maybe I need to add a backpack in there.
Advice and pointers very much welcomed! -
RE: Where can I buy your book?
I'll totally buy your book, Gary.
Well, I illustrated Black Beauty for QED publishing quite a few years ago now, if you like the classics. Out of print now but still available if you want to check it out:

RE: Inking & Colouring my Comic Book Project!
@Heather-Boyd Thanks Heather! Really appreciate your feedback. Yeah I'm having fun with stuff like rim lighting; it's not perfect and I'm a bit inconsistent with it, but to paraphrase the SVS guys, it's okay to do what works even if it's not exactly right

Inking & Colouring my Comic Book Project!
Hi guys, hope you're all well. I'm chipping away at a comic book that me and a friend are creating as a fun project that we'll publish in some way this coming February. I haven't had time to participate in Inktober this year, but I love inking, it's so therapeutic, and I've been enjoying getting stuck into some digital drawing, inking and colouring this month.
With my colouring, I've been applying things I've learned in Will's Painting Colour & Light course, which has been pretty cool.
I'll attach a couple of pages that I'm pretty happy with so far. Feel free to dish out valuable advice and critiques. -
