    • RE: APRIL CONTEST: Lisa's robot invention worked great, until it did this...

Lisa thought that her calculations were correct this time. The robot was responding correctly, its movements were stable, everything was working great... Except for one, tiny, insignificant crack in the robots body. Lisa grabbed her blow torch, thinking, What's the harm in a quick fix....

    • RE: Calling for the November ALL STARS!!!

Here we go! I'm calling this done. Not as much of a tutorial as my previous (Lisa) one - but there is a thread showing a glimpse into some of my creations.

This was a fun one. I only started it around the 20th of November so it was a pretty fast build! I was fortunate to have some things pre-fabricated so that I could focus on the characters and little details.

"The fire crackled as the little bears gathered to hear a story. Pop-pop's voice growled low as he turned the pages. It had been a hard year, but on this night they felt close to each other again."

    • RE: MAY CONTEST: ISOLATION

The sun sank low on the horizon and the heat of the day began to ebb as the old man walked through the homes of the departed. Gulls screeched in the sky, crying out for the mans fish. He held the bucket tighter as his steps disappeared into the drifting sand.

      โค lovely work everyone.

    • RE: MARCH CONTEST: Everything was rattling, falling apart and breaking!!!

Mr. Herbert McGillicuddy knew something peculiar was going to happen when he sat down for his afternoon tea. He knew, because his wife was never late and was always in her chair by 4pm. He sipped his tea as his eyes watched the clock tick slowly past 3:59.

Suddenly, everything was rattling, falling apart and breaking! Mr. Herbert thought perhaps it was a good thing his wife was no where to be seen... or was she?

    • RE: Our SVS Virtual Studio APRIL 2020๐Ÿฐ

Monochrome Month Prompt for today was Giant in the Garden. Reminded me of some of @Braden-Hallett work. So I went with some Megafauna and thought about some of the lessons/tips from his live stream! Another big thank you, Braden!

If you didnโ€™t get a chance to see it live I recommend watching it when he posts it ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

    • Dimensional Illustration - Follow Along Tutorial

Hey all! Long time no post haha but I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in following along with me on my build for the SVS podcast illustration.

For a recap - I won in April with my Lisa Dimensional illustration and will be building my podcast illustration in a similar way (though with much much less stuff).

Some of you expressed a lot of interest in following along with the Lisa project so I wanted to see if there was interest in following this shorter project for SVS learn.

      ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope you're all well!

Here she is!!! And I loooovvveeeeee her!!! It was painful at first but once I saw her turning into the little unsuccessful inventor I was excited to "mess her up."

Super excited to finish this! I'm hoping the rest of this goes by a little faster and I finish in time ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™ˆ

    • Nov. "Together" Quick Build Illustration

Hi! It has been an excessive while since I've posted on the forums but when I got invited to participate in the November prompt finalists... well I figured I should do something....

I have been having a super hard time with burn out lately and haven't felt like drawing much or making much of anything. And feeling quite overwhelmed when I do.. lots of self doubt and apathy.

But I'm actually feeling kind of excited to make something again so I'm hoping this will bring me out of my burn out.

I do not have a ground breaking idea here... since I procrastinated for so long I don't have much time.

But! I recently found this old worn our toy chair and decided to rebuild it and based my idea completely off of that.

Here is the original chair Screenshot_20201121-104304_Gallery.jpg

And how I've updated it! Screenshot_20201121-104314_Gallery.jpg

My idea is simple - a bear poppop reading to his little cubbos Screenshot_20201121-104446_Gallery.jpg

And I've started making the bears ๐Ÿ˜ Screenshot_20201121-104456_Gallery.jpg

Again, nothing crazy. But I figure sometimes you just do it, and move on. It doesn't always have to be "your best work ever."

Let me know if you folks have any questions. If you saw my other process thread you know how much I'm happy to discuss how I do things!!

Looking forward to all your work โค

    • April WIP brings May.... Robots?

Ok so Iโ€™m beginning the April WIP... Iโ€™m going to try to keep it pretty simple because my hope is that I can.... wait for it......

      Build it.
      Eep!

So after commenting on Willโ€™s post about our dreams I thought long and hard about all the excuses Iโ€™ve been making about why I am not putting some of my dreams into action. So here we go. Baby steps. Iโ€™m hoping I can accomplish a dimensional illustration for this months prompt.

Here are my two compositions- again staying very simple because... sculpture lol but let me know what you guys think. Either of these work? Or back to the drawing board.

One more update of the night!

All the bears have recieved their claws (very important for bears, you know. )

      Screenshot_20201121-205646_Gallery.jpg

These are done by dipping the loose wool into hot wax and then quickly, and stickily, rolling the wool until it forms a nice little point.
      Screenshot_20201121-205626_Gallery.jpg

And now, here is a bear show. Screenshot_20201121-204902_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20201121-204920_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20201121-204951_Gallery.jpg

These little ones are waiting patiently for their pjs which are still drying from the tea bath and need to be cut and fitted.

I'm open to names for the little ones! Poppops name is Mr. Harold Bruninson.

      Night folks!

    • RE: Ergonomic setup for drawing on an ipad?

@Lize Hi! I got a great little stand that I absolutely love - I use it along with this table so that I can place it and stand with it while I draw. Since you've already got the desk.

The stand you have posted looks great for tilting and rotating! though I'd be concerned about the stability of drawing on it... though maybe it would work ok - just looks like it's balancing which makes me nervous.
I like that I can lock the Ipad in place while I draw, and then physically rotate it to be horizontal or vertical when I need it.

    • RE: Where to find face references?

@Griffin That is reasonable - I'd point out again though that your best bet is actually people. So I recommend getting a mirror and working on your own facial expressions. Set up a camera and take photos of yourself, or have friends and family do that.

If you can, go to a park and sit and watch people walk by and live draw. These are the best ways to learn - from real humans.

If you can't then as mentioned earlier, watch movies. But I'd recommend doing a mix of pausing, as well as trying to gesture sketch as the people move across the screen so that you can learn gesture drawing from "live models"
