      Hi!

I hope everyone is safe and doing their part to help stop the spread of Covid-19. Even if that means staying inside and hanging out on your couch watching Netflix, you are actually making a difference!

Lee, Will, and I were talking with the SVS team trying to think about how best we could serve the illustration community during this crisis and one of the things we came up with was using our network to connect professionals to our people here through a series of LIVE interviews and demonstrations. A Virtual Illustrator Summit!

We want to get 10-20 A-List professional artists and give them each 1-2 hours to hang out with us in a ZOOM conference meeting. You'll be able to ask them questions, see their process, and get insight as to how they got to where they are today. We hope to do this the week of April 5th.

The logistics of this won't be easy. We are mostly worried about how to schedule this with you and with the artists who all live in multiple time-zones all over the world.

We have three plans and want to get your feedback as to which one of these work for you and why, and what wouldn't work for you and why.

      Plan A:

      • 7 Days long
      • 3-4 hours a day
      • 2-3 artists
      • Serving a different time zone each day

      Plan B:

      • 3 Days
      • 4-8 artists each day
      • 8 hours a day
      • Serving a different time zone each day

      Plan πŸ˜„

      • 1 Day
      • 12-20 artists
      • 24 Hours
      • You can show up and watch whatever time works for you

All of these sessions will be recorded and saved for SVSlearn Subscribers.

That's it. We really want to know what you think. If there's any other ideas you have for this we are all ears right now.

Also, if there is any professional in particular you want us to contact, please let us know. We will put them on our list!

      Thanks,
      Jake

@Jake-Parker this sounds like a great idea. I recently went to an excellent and dead funny talk with Handsome Frank agent Jon Cockley and illustrator Matt Saunders. In a nutshell, It was about trusting in the working relationship between artist and agent. And that Sean Bean is the King of the North.

They would be great to see at this summit.

Okay I might have to subscribe over this 0_0

Anthony Jones is a really cool dude.

Plan A seems the most versatile to me? I like listening to podcasts or Youtube art videos as I work, so it would be nice to have it stretched out over a week as a distraction from all the craziness.

I'm stuck in Seattle XD so if it helps in gathering info, I'm Pacific Time zone.

It's very self serving, but here is my list:
Julie Mellan I think she's french soooo?
              Ryan T. Higgins
              Gerald Keller
              Pascal Campion

I don’t know if he’s available but can we have Dan Santat as well?

My preference would go to Plan C. What a great idea πŸ™‚

For me these artists come to mind:

Mark Janssen (from my own country πŸ™‚
                  John Bond
                  Benji Davies

Thank you for the great idea πŸ™‚

My vote is Plan A, since at that point, I may still be working remote full time and homeschooling my kids, so it'd be easier for my schedule to carve out a few hours a day for the live hangouts. For those same reasons, Plan C wouldn't work, because if there's any emergency at home or with work, I could end upt missing the whole day.

This is an awesome plan, and will be much appreciated!

I love this idea! I would love any of these illustrators:

                      Oliver Jeffers
                      Dan Santat
                      Pascal Campion
                      Brittney Lee

I think I prefer option A so that I'd have a higher chance of getting to see all of them.

This is a super cool idea!

I like Plan A, because I can plan my day around a few hours. If it's an 8 or 24 hour marathon, I would struggle to choose between watching the summit and doing my normal daily life stuff.

                        Right now, I'm obsessed with:

                        Tony DiTerlizzi
                        Cory Godbey
                        Zoe Persico

I like the idea of spreading the summit over several days. It'd be something to look forward to over several days, good for those of us who are anxious and depressed during all of this uncertainty.

Awesome, I like plan C as I will most likely have to listen to the recorded and therefor it will be available sooner! Thanks for thinking of us stay safe!

I think C would work best. More then likely not be able to catch all that people want. But if they are recorded to watch after, that would be best.

@Nyrryl-Cadiz yes but I think if it was scheduled on one day it would be easier to pop on and off through out the day. If it was a set time everyday with how my schedule has not changed with the kids home, it would be harder to get on and watch sometimes.

I personally like plan B, I feel like 24 non-stop is just going to be heavily overwhelming for those who like to power watch.

A list of possible artist I'd like to see and watch are:

Laura Price https://www.instagram.com/lulusketches/ (she is always willing to talk about her experience)

I 2nd Dan Santat as suggested by @Nyrryl-Cadiz, and also add: Rebecca Elliott, Noah Jones, Oliver Jeffers, Michael Rex, and Peter Brown. There’s so many amazing illustrators, but those come to mind.

I vote for Plan A. Maybe you should run a poll?

My vote is for Plan A.

I think from a logistical standpoint, Plan C might really suck if everything doesn't go like clockwork. And I don't like the idea of staying up until 3am to catch someone πŸ™‚ Plus, to my point below, if I'm staying up all night trying to get the most out of it, being someone that works remotely that still wrecks my following day.

As someone that's working remotely from home, Plan A is the only feasible plan I could even plan on getting much out of and would be really manageable.

I vote for plan C. Would there be any way to provide an agenda, so we know when we would like to tune in? This would benefit those listening to the recording too. One illustrator that I would be interested in is Yaoyao Ma Van As.
