Featured Student Special Edition: MerMay
-
We have decided to do something a little different again for the MerMay art challenge. Like we did in October with Inktober, we are going to be featuring a group of 5+ students that participate in the MerMay challenge! Anyone that participates at all in MerMay this year is invited to post some of the illustrations they do to this month by June 1st. We will then reach out to those that are selected with a short MerMay themed Q&A that will be posted at the end of June.Instructions:
This post is a place to share work if you want to get a chance to be featured in the Student Art Gallery on the SVSLearn.com homepage for June. To be considered share 1-2 of your best MerMay pieces (they need to be from 2020) on this forum post. Make sure to share your image by the 1st of June to be considered. Also, make sure your images are at least 800 pixels on the shortest side and do not exceed 1mb in size.Work will be selected based off of how well the work uses the following:
Concept: How well does your illustration convey a clear concept/story. Is it a unique approach? Does it make me want to know more about what is happening in the illustration?
Technique: How is the composition working? Does it have good use of lighting, rendering, mark making, etc.? Does the technique compliment the concept?
Mermaid: Does use the challenge’s theme (mermaids) in an interesting and creative way?If you are selected, we will be emailing you using the email indicated on your forum account. Besides your art being displayed on the homepage, you will also be sent a few questions for a Q&A blog post that will be shared on the SVSLearn blog.
Happy swimming!

Here is my take on a mermaid. Why do they always have to look like half human/half fish?

Hi! Here’s a piece I did a while back for my portfolio.

My mermay 2020 piece. A cute little moon thief. I'm sharing from my phone at the moment but can send any size image if selected.

Here's one of the pieces I did for Mermay this year. It's a riff on The Little Mermaid. -
Had a lot fun with this one!
