Hello from a nervous newb :)
-
Hi guys, my name is Maria. I'm 32, from Australia, and probably what you'd call a serial dabbler - I've taken a few art classes here and there, even had a couple of failed attempts at going to art school. Stopped making art completely for several years but something in the back of my mind keeps bugging me to create so I'm back
Right now I'm very much a beginner, just focusing on building up a daily practice, following the curriculum and quietly plugging away at these courses. I'm a shift worker so online learning suits me well as I can work around my schedule.
There's so much talent on here that I honestly feel intimidated, but also excited as I don't know any people in real life who are in the creative field so I'm looking forward to connecting with you guys, learning from you and contributing as a member of the community.
Lovely to meet you all,
Cheers

Welcome Maria! Glad to have you here. Let us know if you ever need help with anything.

@Maria-Carmina Welcome Maria Please don't be intimidated - everyone around here helps each other! We are all so different and have different things to offer, so it's really not a competition. Best of luck with your journey!

@Maria-Carmina Welcome to the forums! Try not to feel intimidated This forum is a calm port in the internet sea.
-
Welcome! This is definitely the place to find art friends.
-
@Maria-Carmina Welcome!

@Maria-Carmina hi, maria! Welcome!
-
Welcome Maria! :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_smiling_eyes: Step One: Never compare yourself to other people. Just focus on being better than the week before. This makes it easy to see your own improvement which will boost your confidence!
-
@Maria-Carmina welcome. I have to agree with @Washu to not compare yourself with others. It makes art impossible.
The best thing to compare yourself against is your last couple of pieces. Improvement is the key!
Great to have you with us!

Hi Maria! I find it so enjoyable to learn and do my own artwork, because I don't put any pressure on myself to hurry or do anything that I don't want to do, unlike most of our 8-5 jobs. I only found this site a few months ago myself and I'm learning so much! I hope you find that to be the case for you too!

@Maria-Carmina Hi Maria! Welcome to a fellow serial dabbler. I've been all over the map as far as hobbies go, so I understand where you're coming from. Sounds like you're committed to working at your art every day - which is definitely the first step towards getting good at something! Can't wait to see what you can achieve!
-
Welcome! I felt the same when i first started here. I have learned a lot and found out a lot about myself as well. If you are serious about doing art this is the place to be! If you do it as a hobby this is also the place to be

Hi Maria! I am a newbie here as well. This is actually my first post. Itβs nice to meet you! Iβm looking forward to getting more involved in the forums and making the best use of the classes that I can. I decided to start with How to Draw Everything and Iβm only halfway through. I will probably be slower to progress than I would like since I will be trying to work around a full time job and young kids, but I love the flexibility of these courses so I will be able to fit them in whenever I can!
Best of luck to you in your studies!

Welcome. This forum is a very encouraging and friendly place. I have seen fellow artists at all levels and all sorts of styles are able to help each other in many different ways in this forum. I learned so much from this forum, about making art, about the illustration business, and also how to think and talk about art.

Welcome!

Welcome This is an awesome forum to share ideas and get advice and no hate or bulls@#t. I love it!
Biggest thing I learned in my own journey is to only compare yourself to one person, your past self. Even if you left art and making things for a while the skills you had don't leave they just need a kickstart and the curriculum is great for that and the advice and support on this forum is awesome.

Hi Maria. No need to feel intimidated as the folk on this forum are very friendly and welcoming!
-
@Maria-Carmina welcome to the forums!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and words of encouragement
I have just finished my first course and am about to start the next one.
Hope you all have a lovely day!
