I think this wasn't a failure at all. I think it was a solid try toward copying the masterpiece. I really like how you captured a lot from the original. So don't beat yourself up :). Having it right the first time is rare if not improbable. I want to see your next try ^^

RE: Folktale Week Illustrations - add yours :D
Fourth day of folktaleweek: Smoke
On a cold Christmas eve a young girl was sent out to sell matches on the streets. None wanted any and most ignored her. She wasn't wearing any shoes for a boy had stolen them and her clothes were too big and frazzled to keep her warm. Afraid to go home without any income, she huddles in a corner trying to keep warm with matches. With each match she imagined the heat of a stove, a warm hearth, delicious warm food and thought of her grandmother. She was the only person who ever was kind and loving toward her, unlike her parents who would beat her if she came home empty handed. Striking a match again she suddenly sees her grandmother standing over her. It fills her with utter joy, and before her shape can disappear in the darkness of the night the strikes several matches at once to look upon her grandmother's kind face longer. After those matches she doesn't strike up any more for she has left the world that has left her cold, to be with her grandmother who was sent to guide her on her way to were she will be happy once again.
RE: Discovering my style.
Alright, i have split them up and according to the topic i have added and removed some works. I also looked for better images to represent what i want from the artist/illustrator.
@xin-li i considered your advice about the process in which it was made as well. I can think it's beautiful but the technique could be wrong for me. So some things have changed because of that too
The one for comics:
And the one for children's books:
Thank you everyone for helping me in my thought process
Next step will be (finally) doing research for the actual portfolio piece i will do. I have thought of making a master copy but i assume (correct me if i'm wrong) that can't go into the portfolio @Chip-Valecek so i will do that as a side project.
So from what i have to go on now, i think i will go for a children's book illustration for one of the many stories i have in my notebook
Comments on my dream portfolios are still welcome, i value the input greatly
RE: Hashtag Protocol
I'm no expert either since i only started using instagram last month but i found this website to help me out.
I usually search tags for the medium i used for example: ink
If it is connected to anything like folktaleweek this week
And what is on the picture itself for example: I drew an elephant so #elephant, which is what @Chip-Valecek explained above.
