Thanks @Lee-White for the reminder to do the R&D and thumbnails upfront. My impulse is to dive right in on a piece and waste a ton of time wondering why my drawing isn't working and it gets tighter and tighter as I go until there's no life in it. I also internalize pressure to constantly post on Instagram, but I'm making more of an effort to post quality stuff over quantity. And that means taking the time to get to a solid thumbnail and most likely, a decent portfolio piece.

@Laurel-Aylesworth that is Exactly what happens to me. Lee’s process is really helping though

I really appreciated @Lee-White’s 6 steps to a great image! But I have a question...if you’re illustrating a book of say 24 images, are you truly doing 50 thumbnails on each image? That seems so overwhelming to me!

@alicia the 50 thumbnails is just a guide, but I am doing around that many for each spread. Remember, thumbnails are fast and loose. I'm not rendering 50 tiny perfect little drawings. Some of the drawings are the same idea, but different compositions. Some are similar compositions, but different concepts. It's pretty easy to hit that many if you are drawing loose and free! : )
