@mag these are very sweet. I love your take on a mermaid. Submit to the contest. You have a good idea going.
-
@Heather-Boyd nice experiments!! Are you also a Skillshare member by chance? If so there is a class that I would recommend.
-
Not as of yet but do suggest it none the less.
-
@Heather-Boyd I'm a Skillshare addict!! I think you would enjoy the classes by Nina Rycroft. In particular she has a class called Illustration Masterclass in which you use one small vignette and di several versions each with a different media or stylization. It's a great class!!

Iβm working on some homework for Visual Storytelling Techniques. This is assignment 5, creative cropping. Illustrating a scene from the little red riding hood story. I found a version called Little Red Cap - Brothers Grimm, that has an alternate ending where a second wolf gets on the roof hoping to surprise attack Red on her way out, but Gma and Red fool the wolf into jumping into the large water trough thereby drowning. Thatβs what Iβm illustrating here. These are my thumbnails and values.

@JennyJones Thank you! I'm playing around with this character a little bit, try to find some story for her... But I definitely hope to post some picture with her for the contest. But since I've never drawn mermaids in my life, I'm super nervous, the more I sketch and draw this one, I see how complex creatures mermaids can be.
-
@burvantill Good job on exploring all those ideas! I like last row the best.
-
@mag That fox is just the CUTEST! I want him haha! Your book sounds so exciting, i hope you'll post some sketches or WIP for it as I'd love to see!

Chugging away on my mermay.
This is going to be a two fish with one line kind of thing since I am also using it for the SCBWI monthly contest, Alone.

I need to get going on my mermay piece. I started thumbnails but that is about it. I been busy all month on an album cover for a local band. They are really cool to work with. I love getting a client that understands my process and knows what they want.
First was to come up with some band logo designs. They went with a combination of the ideas and settled with the bottom one.
From there we did thumbnails and they decided to go with a combo of A and B with some changes. Their idea was aliens walking around the city like they are part of it. There are call backs to some coffee shops in Amsterdam which is where they got their band name.
Now I am now working on my value stage:

A Space Monkey in polymer clay -
@kylebeaudette super cool.
-
Iβm done farting around with this in procreate. Iβm ready to take it to paper. -
I learned 5 point perspective yay!
Itβs easier than I thought... gonna see if i can push it with something more interesting than a street scene
-
@Aleksey thereβs more than three?! Crap.
Lol. This is pretty neat. Did you learn from svs? -
playing with some textures.

This post is deleted! -
@MissMushy Haha I just love it. Looking forward to see the finished version .
-
@kylebeaudette Wow! How cool is this?!

I'm going to be making anatomy my main focus over the next few months and since I'm doing David Hohn's Heads and Hands class, I thought I'd focus on the skull for a while. I can now draw it from the three main positions from memory in under one minute, which was my goal. Focusing on doing the class assignments now!
Here is one of the study sheets I made myself to nail the different proportions.
