first time published!

First time published I was contacted by a magazine several months ago called The Newfoundland Quarterly ( longest running magazine in Canada), and asked to do images for an article they were doing. It is presented as a field guide to mythical ( maybe, or maybe not) creatures of my home province, Newfoundland and Labrador. These creatures are based in the lore and legend of this province. I loved doing this project and sunk much more time into it than I was getting paid for... However I retain copyright of the images. They had first rights of publication ( it was published December 1).
Anyhow I thought I would share some of the images. In local legend, fairies come in different guises. Tricky little rascals! I drew two fairies, one a fairy horse... too cute and I think I've never enjoyed illustrating anything as much as this tiny pony! The other I'm calling a butterfly fairy, a child like creature with a wizened face, wearing garb of local flora and fauna...butterfly wings for a skirt, a collage of coltsfoot leaves for her top, felted slippers, creeping snowberry vines for keeping her hair a little contained.
I also drew the local lake legend, Cressie, a lake monster, and the Labrador sasquatch, a furry creature that walks on legs like a human and leaves cloven shaped footprints, and the old hag, who is a nighttime visitor and sits on one's chest Making it hard to breathe..
Anyhow it was super fun, gotta say I learned so much here at SVS learn that helped me pull this off and hopefully this is just the beginning....My subscription is up in a few days and I'm taking a break from classes for a bit to work on some personal illustration projects as well as pet portraits... I'll be back I think perhaps later next year ( I'll still be kicking around the forums though) .
Cheers everyone and have a great day, just wanted to share
