Dragonfly WIP - your feedback is much appreciated!
-
Hello everyone, I was working on a previous version of this, but half way through I scraped it, it just wasn't working for me when I was coloring it.
Later I got an great idea for a spot illustration while I was doing Tai Chi so I went with that. Its simpler and also easier to finish.
Let me know what you thing, and good luck to you all on finishing your Dragonflys!Final Image:

@cszoltan i love your new sketch. It would work great as a cover
-
The shapes on that frog are * chef's kiss *

Oh. my. So much more story going on in the second sketch. More personality. I do not have any advice on the new sketch. It is perfect. Go with it!!!!!!!
-
@cszoltan The new sketch has tension, danger, speed. I instantly see a story here! I only wonder if the character would be more frightened ("during" action - actively speeding away from the frog) but I like this curious pose too ("before" action - the character has just noticed the frog).
-
Love your spot illustration! That frog is amazing. I can't wait to see the finished piece. Immediately inspiring me to get better a my spot illos!
-
the frog sketch is amazing! (they both are really but the frog one is super striking imo) I love those types of illustrations where everything sort of fits into a larger simple shape (like the circular shape of the spot illustration). the other image is awesome too - it looks like it could be a sketch straight out of a movie
-
Love the second one..for no other reason than I really want to see that one completed!
-
Thank you @Nyrryl-Cadiz @Carmanda @JoshuaDages really appreciate it, I will paint it in a similar way that I did the Oz cover, but maybe use a more colored pencil approach with this one.
@carriecopadraws Thank you Carrie, my initial idea was the second, that he just noticed the frog appearing in the foliage.
@Mary-Toth Thanks Mary, for the spot illustration I wanted it to be as simple as possible, and also to have a nice spot illustration in my portfolio. I rely loved my second sketch but during coloring I realized that I cant really take it to the level that I wanted to, so I doped it, and yes it has a 16:9 aspect ration, in 4K resolution, I was thinking of an animated movie when I was drawing it.
@djlambson Hi Deborah, thank you, I imagined that one as a still image from an animated movie, but mid way through I realized that I just don't have the energy and time right now to push this to the finish line, so I re-interpreted the whole thing and did the first one, much more simple and easier to finish. -
@cszoltan looking rest. I just wonder if either extending the length of the wings or the grass might help add a little more variety
-
@Gary-Wilkinson that soulds very exiting, originally I wanted everything to fit in to a circle type shape, but I will do a quick paintover! Thanks for the idea Gary!
-
Thank you for the feedback everyone here is the final image!
