April WIP brings May.... Robots?

@StudioLooong Yes! I ADORE his work. He's a huge idol of mine. His work is essentially what I think of when I dream of being able to do what ever I want. Gather all the random things in this world and turn them into amazing stories that you can reach out and feel.
He was just interviewed on the Terry Border podcast and I related so much to his illustration journey, starting off as a 2D painter, but always wanting to do more than just fill in lines.
-
@EliaMurrayArt ahh great, he's one of my favorite illustrators too. I actually discovered him when I was in high school because he would regularly show his work in the galleries in CIncinnati, OH where i grew up (He's from Indiana so the journey wasn't too far). There was one exhibit where he had all his sketchbooks out on display, it was SO cool to see his sketches and plans, notes for materials and such displayed along with the finished work. In his most recent book his endpapers are pics of all his props and what he made them out of and its mesmerizing. He puts his puppets up for sale all the time and I so badly want to buy one.
-
@StudioLooong ohhh yeah that is a good dream that I share with you 100% I would LOVE to own one of his puppets. How luck you are you've seen his work in person! I bet it was full of inspiring tidbits.
I'll have to pick up his recent book! I have not seen it.

A little progress on Lisa. Just getting the major shapes in.
Sanding, carving, and shaping to continue until I'm happy with how she looks. And then she will get painted. Trying to decide if I want to carve her mouth in, or paint it on... I'm thinking carve. -
This is such a fun process to follow. Did you use a different kind of clay for her eyes?
I'm looking forward to more!
-
Thought it would be a good idea to show her with her head.. ya know.. attached...
-
@TessaW Hi! Yes, it is a different clay.
I made a whole bunch of little eyes from Magic Sculpt clay a while ago. So I just grabbed them and popped them into her "skull" lol
-
OMG attaching the head just took it to a whole new level! Don't forget to go "She's alive! SHE'S ALLLIIIIIIVVVVEEEEE!" (Frankenstein style) when you'e done!
-
@Neha-Rawat just wait till she gets her hair!!
-
Oh my goodness! Sheβs looking awesome! I love her face, the nose is so cute
-
π₯°π₯° progress!
Working on the hands next. Sigh I am feeling doubtful I can finish this by the end of the month. But I will do my very best!!!
-
Her face is too freaking cute! What kind of clay are you using? Her mouth is amazing, I can believe you did that with clay! I hope you get her finished before month's end!
-
I don't have much to add here, but just wanted to say, "Whoaaa!" I love your character designs on paper just as they are, but you're definitely working on a few extra cylinders with this! I am following this...
-
@Coley thank you! I am quite please with how her mouth is looking. And her ears π₯°π₯° I am using La Premier air dry clay. This is the first time I am trying it out. I chose it because I wouldn't have to use the oven and I could sculpt, dry, carve, sand and layer more clay on pretty easily.
It is definitely waaayyy different than what I am used to (super sculpey) but I think I am actually liking it quite a bit more.
-
@LauraA thank you!! Sometimes I really feel like it all "clicks" when I work dimensionally. This time is especially that. Like the drawings are all building up to something that would be built.
-
@EliaMurrayArt Iβll have to try that clay out sometime.
And...her. Ears. Are.the.cutest.things.ever!
-
@Coley π₯°π₯°π₯°π₯° thank you. I am quite happy with them. She's going to have lots of hair so I figured she needed big ears.
