Gut feeling, which colour overalls do you prefer?
-
Puttin' together a book dummy. Overalls are usually blue, but I'm not sure I like the bright blue ones. The book goes from a bright and warm place to a dim and cool place, so I was thinkin' that a more saturated colour would work better overall.
Red's not there as when I see red overalls with buttons I think micky mouse
-
I think that the orange (although you say it's not red, I'd say it's pretty close
) works the best for standing out in different environments. If there will be a lot of grassy environments, it's very possible that the green or teal outfits may blend in and the image may be harder to read.
This character looks like she may have a lot of grass stains or patches on her clothing, so if you have a hard time deciding on just one color, including those elements may provide compromise while also providing hints to her personality.

Can you give us a description (keywords) for the character?
I think that 1 has a very innocent, young look but 3 has a more mischevious look.
-
@Braden-Hallett 4 and 7 for me - voted for 4 though
-
@Braden-Hallett I really like 6, it pops the most for me! That gives him great main character vibes
But if you're not sure, you could dim it a tad, somewhere between 5 and 6. The goof thing with a bright blue is that you can affect the color a lot by changing the lighting. So as your book becomes darker, you can change the lighting to dim and darken the colours of everything, including his overalls.

I did not know you could do polls on here! Cool. I voted 3. It just pops more for me.

What kind of environment is she in through most of the book? What season? I like #2 but if she in green grass or forest she probably wouldn't stand out. I like #3 too But if it's autumn she might stand out either.
-
This doesnβt make ANY sense to me Braden, but I happened to have my glasses off when I saw this post and the one that stood out most was the last one.

My standard colour palette is skewed a bit toward red. I think even my yellow is closer to orange

I think 'rebellious' would probably be the primary keyword. Maybe 'frantic'. There's is much yelling of 'NO' and stamping of feet. I don't know why I sometimes forget to use those keywords. You'd think I'd have learned by now

Is true! I hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll try it a tad knocked back.

Beginning: A filthy utterly cluttered bedroom.
Middle: A strange starry void filled with infinite socks.
End: A clean bedroom. -

Interesting!

@Braden-Hallett i like 3

No 3 goes most with rebellious. You could moderate the saturation of it depending on how rebellious she is at different moments of the story.
-
@Braden-Hallett for frantic and rebellious I would go with either 3 or 6. The more saturated colors provide much more energy!

I remixed my palette, so the orange, though less saturated, is a bit further away from my red now
Thanks everyone for the input! The poll showed overwhelmingly #3 though I kept a spot of the blue.
