Hello from Central Texas!
My name is Katherine and I'm based out of Waco, TX.
I currently work as a freelance illustrator, but my work is very decorative. I'm slowly learning the art of storytelling and compositions, and I'd love to work in the publishing industry doing book covers and editorial illustration!
This is what my older work looks like:
And these are some pieces I've done for a publishing portfolio:
(If you wanna see larger images of my work, visit my website: https://www.kmakowsky.com)
I feel totally new to creating thumbnails, leading the viewer's eye, anatomy, creating a narrative.. all that stuff that's so important to the publishing industry! I still really like my older decorative work, but I'm ready to push myself and learn how to be a more versatile artist!
I've listened to the podcast for a while and I'm excited to get more involved in the forums. Looking forward to meeting y'all!

Do you have Arthur Rackham in your influences at all? My brain is making associations to him with that first piece, probably because of the texture and colours.
Great stuff and welcome!
@Amanda-Jean Yes, I love Rackham! Especially the way he draws trees, and his use of line.
Welcome!!! You are going to love it here

Hi Katherine! Welcome!
Your work, both old and new, is really nice. I especially like the image of swans flying. I imagine a book of Polish or eastern European fairy tales illustrated by you would be very nice!

You're gonna like this forum, it's pretty fun!
I guess we kinda share the goal of working in the publishing industry, doing book covers etc. I am rooting for ya! I really enjoy the illustrations that you do. Sure, there is some room for improvement ( for all of us ) but it has a GREAT vibe to it, especially the first and the last one. Awesome work! Lookin forward for more
@TwiggyT Thank you so much! Honestly, a book like that would be a DREAM job!!
@IgorWoznicki Thank you, my friend! Excited to see what everybody else is working on!
