Sad news about Rich Cartwright
-
Is there a way to post messages to the family anywhere? I know from my experience as a minister that it is extremely meaningful for the family to read messages or get cards at a time like this, even from people that didn't know their loved one that well. Just hearing that Rich was an important presence in the forum, not just for his art but for his helpfulness to others, would be good for them to hear.

@demotlj I'm not sure, I am friends with him on facebook but no one has posted or said anytihng on his wall.

I am just now seeing this and am in shock. I am so sad and confused and upset. Not sure what happened just yet, but this is really sad news. He was a great part of our SVS family and it won't be the same without him. : (

I'm so sad. People here on the forum are friends and we will definitely miss him.
-
Whaat? That's... We were just chatting with him so recently! Oh no...

Here's the spotlight he recently had with Kidlit411: http://www.kidlit411.com/2019/02/Kidlit411-Illustrator-Richard-Cartwright.html?m=1

@jimsz Thanks for locating that. I didn't know he was that close. Trail's only a few hours away.

Very sad news. He seemed like a very nice person, reading his post. My heartfelt condolences to his friends and family!
-
I am stunned. He was such a big part of this forum and so supportive and helpful. He will be missed.
-
So very sad and so young, I would have loved to see his books on the shelves. He's been a part of SVS for a long time. My prays go out to his family.

Thank you @jimsz for sharing the obituary for Rich. This crushing and unexpected news makes me realize how deeply I care for our artists' community even though we may never meet. I plan to send a condolence message to the family, to let them know about how much Rich will be missed by his fellow artists.
Here's direct link to his family registry on the funeral home's website if you want to leave a message as well.

Oh my! This came as a total shock. The art world is missing a good one
-
That's really sad...
-
How terribly sad . He was always so helpful and encouraging. Itβs so weird how one can become attached to folks you only know online. He shall be missed.
-
@MissMushy That is one thing about these forums, it seems to bring us all a little closer. It creates a friendship that may only be online but we all want to see each other grow to be better artists.
-
I couldn't see the site that @Johanna-Kim posted for sending condolences so I have emailed the funeral home sited in the obituary to find out if there is another place to convey our sympathies. If they send another link, I will post it here (or if someone has an alternative link, could you post it?) Otherwise, I will see if at least I could compile everyone's comments in this thread and email it to the funeral home to give to the family. I'll let you know what I find out.

Rich was a star on the forum. He helped a lot of people with his advice and I know he will be missed by many of us. Very sad to hear this.
-
I can tell that Rich really made an impact here in our SVS community. Sad news indeed.

@demotlj and everyone,
It's so wonderful that you emailed the funeral home... thanks for being a spokesperson for our community.I've been floating an idea around in my mind that I wanted to share here to consult about: could we also send artwork that we do in his honor? It could be a simple sketch of a paintbrush or flower or something else that is done in his honor. Or it could be a full piece like what @lmrush posted in the contest thread. I would be willing to have them all printed if we could track down a physical address to send them to. Otherwise, perhaps they could be sent as attachments to the email? All ideas to build on this welcome.
