Thanks! It will be cool to see student work on the homepage!

Hi Ya’ll My name is Spencer Hale. I’m from Utah. I am super excited to be part of SVS. I've been around in the forums for a while, and recently started @Lee-White and David Hohn's awesome Illustration 1 class. It has really pushed my ideation techniques and illustration process. I posted a little introduction in our class forum, and I realized that I never introduced myself here.
I am really interested in visual development art and character design for animation/games and children’s book illustration.
I was way into art in high school, but then fell into the world of wedding and event filmmaking and video production for the last 15 or so years.
Recently I decided to dive back into drawing. I have gone back to school at a local university (UVU) for illustration, and have been really eating up all the good teaching her on SVS. I really want to dip my toes into freelance illustration. I have been so inspired by many awesome local artists I have meet here in Utah and online thru SVS and Instagram.
It is so nice to meet you all and I’m looking forward to us all learning from each other and our awesome instructors.
Here is my entry. There is some awesome work in here!
Here is my current creative work cave. I have some family photos and toys about, along with some inspirational quotes and art from other artists i like. I've also started taping some of my daily practice sketches and studies on the wall, kind of like a mini portfolio. When I do something that i like better than what is up there, I replace it with the new sketch. Sometimes I really can't wait to pull some pieces off the wall but i wont do it unless i have something better to replace it with.
I know this is an old thread. But I keep thinking how cool these SVS t-shirts are. I hope there will be some future way for students to get a t-shirt. online or in person.
A SVS conference or even a small meetup would be amazing.
I attend a local university, but I am more likely to show off my SVS school pride. maybe I should paint my face, and pretend that SVS has a big football game today.
Looking good! It really has a nice feeling to it, and I dig the shapes. I would maybe lighten the buildings behind the cat to make it stand out some more. I also consider bringing back the moon or using some smoke to make the main guy stand out more as well. Just squint you eyes or shrink the art down to see if it still reads well.
Lee or anyone is who is currently in the class,
What are some things I should do to prepare for the classes starting April 11th?
Any subscription courses that might be beneficial to review?
What about helpful art supplies?
I feel like a kid who wants to lay out my backpack and clothes before my first big day of kindergarten.
I vote for plan A.
Here is my list of illustrators:
And I'd love to hear from SVS instructors past and present:
And anyone else who has helped with a class.
Thanks for all you guys are doing!
@sigross That sounds like an awesome app. Thanks for sharing. I too have found that a timer helps be immeasurably
I can see how they visually influence my art today, and this podcast has made me think about the way the stories have had an impact as well.
Thank you for such a helpful and entertaining podcast!
@12before34 Welcome to SVS! Thanks for sharing you work. If you are thinking about refining your style or at least sorting out your art influences, check out Lee's SVS class called "How to Discover you Style"
I did the exercise in there, called "Dream Portfolio" It has helped me really figure out what I specifically like about different artists approaches, and thinking about how i can use that to better my own work and come up with my own approach.
Glad to have you here!
