BIG WIP - critiques please?
-
Hope everyone had a great holiday. I was given the gift of a stomach virus over Christmas and haven’t drawn anything in a couple of weeks. Feels good to be back at it, but boy do I feel rusty. Here’s my idea/rough sketch for BIG and just because I’m not sure I have added enough details at this point to make it clear, that is a beanstalk the cat has climbed. Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

@kristin-wauson He's so cute!

Thank you!

This is so lovely! If you want to add more details to make the beanstalk read more, I suggest adding some leaves perhaps some curled tendrils. The piece is already looking great!
-
I agree with @nyrrylcadiz with adding more detail to the beanstalk. Great start!
-
My suggestion is vines and leaves. Also do beanstalks grow beans? Asking for science. (Beautiful image btw)

@Chip-Valecek @nyrrylcadiz @swordofodin
Thanks guys! Yes, I realized I forgot to add the leaves and stuff after I posted but will definitely go back and add them. And for science, I think beanstalks DO grow beans

I agree with @nyrrylcadiz ^_^

Lovely work!
Nice concept and pretty cool clarity of silhouettes.
A small thing that bothers my eye is how the lines of the teeth and the collar run into each other. A lot of lines clutter together creating a lot of visual interest, competing with the visual dominance of both the gaze of the mouse and the cat.I think the already suggested leaves and such will be a cool improvement too.
Really nice work, looking forward to seeing it grow -
@feleri good catch! I’ll make sure those are less tangenty in the next version. Thank you!

Very nice, fun concept. My only comment (besides the tangent issue with the teeth) is that the buttons look off to the right. I think it might be that the fabric line is down the center and with most clothes the buttons are down the center? Not a big deal but this will be a fun one to see finished.

Oooh I love the look of this, your style is wonderful, really looking forward to seeing it finished once you've added all the extra bits and bobs!
-
Thanks everyone for your help so far! Here is the progress. I never know when to call these things finished. Do you think it’s done? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!
-
@kristin-wauson oh so cute! I love the expressions on both their faces.
-
@kristin-wauson I think it looks great! Love the texture you have going on. My only suggestion, and it may be hard at this point, but the cats head looks like its looking past the mouse. If you could just tweak the head a little to turn it.
-
Absolutely gorgeous! I love your color pallet and the details on the beanstalk.
The only thing that stuck out - and it's really just a personal opinion bit - is that the facial expression on the mouse changed from rough to finished. He seems a bit more unimpressed now, vs. confused and a little surprised in the first one. I liked that look of "Why are you freaking out?" In the first picture.
But again, that is entirely a personal opinion bit! The pic is great and I really love this finished(?) product

@chip-valecek hmm I think you’re right. I’ll see what I can do.
-
@Aaron-Pierce Thank you! And on the expression, I think it’s because I gave him eyelids ... I thought it gave him more of a Henry the VIII smug expression, but I think you’re right. The original is better. I took them out. What do you think?
@Chip-Valecek I shifted his eyeballs to see if I could avoid redoing his entire head. Do you think it works now?
-
@kristin-wauson yes that helped a lot!
-
Yay! Thanks for looking at it!
