SCBWI shout outs

@Asyas_illos Thank u! I agree, our fellow rabbits definitely have great portfolios. Great job everyone!
-
@Valerie-Light did you catch the part when one of the ads said she had a dog file? I’m mean I honestly didn’t know they worked liked that. They find things that you do well and set it aside waiting for the perfect project? Or maybe that’s just her? I don’t know that was crazy to me! But, I think that’s the most important thing I took away yesterday, is draw the things you like to draw and what you’re good at and put those in your your portfolio. If you don’t like drawing cars don’t put them in cuz if they’re good you’ll get asked to do them again and again. And be drawing them for six months to a year.
-
Thanks for sharing @Asyas_illos, and good luck to the Rabbits! I look forward to entering the next one
-
@Asyas_illos I did see that, and I love it! I loved hearing from the panelists saying they welcomed art submissions from unagented, unpublished illustrators. That makes me feel way less pressure about sending a 'perfect' submission in.
-
@Jeremy-Ross thank you and I’ll definitely be attending again!
-

Oof my brain is full! I'm going to try to watch a few more of the sessions I missed, and go through my notebooks to look up the things I need to follow up on. A mountain of new information for me.
Are there other, more specialized conferences? Just illo, just kidlit, etc? @Lee-White once mentioned going to art directors' and designers' conferences and having great luck there. Can anyone point me to that?
-
@Asyas_illos @TessaW @Merry-Millergass @Valerie-Light @Jeremy-Ross thank you so much everybody!!!

@Valerie-Light There is an illustration conference called icon, but it already happened this year. I believe it is all illustration and not just children's books: https://theillustrationconference.org/
AIGA holds design conferences. There is a design conference in October.
Adobe does the Adobe Max conference which has some good speakers in the design industry. I think they do it twice a year. And it has been free the last couple because it has been online.
Creative South is a design conference.
This link shows several conferences. Some I have mentioned and others I haven't heard of before: https://scottkirkwood.work/conference-calendar

@Kim-Rosenlof OOH Thanks, Kim! Bookmarking this post to reference later.

@Valerie-Light All the things @Kim-Rosenlof mentioned are great. Adobe Max maybe not as much (unless you live local) because it's expensive and the focus of the attendees is so broad and many of the people in the audience are teachers. But anything by AIGA would be fantastic. Try to find anything local because that is where it's cheap and easy to get out and meet people.
Here's another list I found: https://www.mediavalet.com/blog/creative-conferences/

@Lee-White Awesome, Lee! Thank you so much for the response, I'll check that out.
