@pamela-fraley That's hilarious, too. I am trying to imagine how you could turn this into a vector and yeah I don't think that's possible. Way too much texture.

I teach tech lab (1:1 iPads at my school) and this week the students needed a break, so I gave them some free time to explore our district’s educational apps. Which meant I needed something to do myself. I started working on a series of frogs while I sat with them, and this one made my K-2 kids go “EWWWW” so I guess that’s… good?
Now I just need to figure out how to draw ground coverage. I tried a bunch of leaves since this is a Costa Rican poison dart frog, but it didn’t look right.

@chrisaakins maybe a line art version? I don’t know. ️

Right now, while also doing 12x12 this year (where you write 12 picture book manuscripts in 12 months), I’m trying to launch a weekly comic strip.
3 posted so far. Art complete on 5. Stories written for about 30.
Posting them on my Instagram, my Twitter and my website.

Needed a new profile pic for social medias that was done traditionally, and was more to the style I'm working in now.

More studies…

I’m loving seeing what everyone is working on.
I have a very rough WIP I’m working on. I’m attempting a black and white DPS for a chapter book. I need to practise humans, composition, settings, emotions and black and white. I’m trying to combine all these into one.
The concept is a gang of pirates with a captain that keeps getting things wrong. I’ve added a bit of dummy text but I’m no copywriter! Can you even say ‘shucks’ in a kids book?
Looking forward to adding hair, clothes and an elaborate treasure chest and being freeeeeee from the challenge of colour. I would like to do a colour book cover to go with this but it’s needed for Wednesday and I’m going to just have to go for it just to get this done! Eeeeek

@griffin Does anyone know why my images show up blurry when posted in a thread? If I click on it to expand it it’s fine but otherwise it’s blurry.
-
@griffin maybe it's too large of a file? Try uploading a smaller resolution
-
@carlianne I’ve tried smaller images (1200 px on longest side) and 72 dpi. I’ve also tried jpeg vs png but to no avail.
-
cover colour thumb!

@kylebeaudette I love this!!

Made a mock-up book cover from one of my Submissions from the Star Monthly contest.
It’s fun to see “what if” this existed outside the digital realm…

I went to Lake Placid, NY (site of two winter Olympics) for some decidedly non-Olympic standard cross-country skiing. They offer dog sled rides on the frozen lake and I loved watching the joy and enthusiasm of the dogs pulling the sled. I did this piece when I got home.
-
After watching Marco Bucci's digital painting Demo, I allow myself to have some fun with painting. Just remember to be child like in doing art.
-
@aurelia This looks really good!
-
@kim-rosenlof Thank you! I was trying the oil painting brush in PS, it was great fun!
-
Another sketch from my trip to Lake Placid for cross-country skiing (or in this case, walking.) I keep hoping that one day these sketches will turn into great backgrounds for an illustration but so far the SVS prompts haven't lined up. I need a prompt like, "Riley decided caution was the better part of valor."

So happy I finally finished a full page illustration. It's been a while.
