CHILDREN'S BOOK PRO INFO
-
Hey guys, many of you are asking about our new program and we have some info for ya!
The price of the video version of the class will be $497. It will consist of between 20-30 hours of instruction and will have quite a few homework assignments, etc. for you to do. When you complete the class, you should have a full portfolio you can use. We wanted to keep our class cheaper than a traditional college class at a top art school which can range from $2000 to $5000 depending on which school you go to. But our instruction is better than those classes. I feel confident in saying that because you are getting all three of us showing you how to do it vs. just 1 teacher (who may or may not even be a working illustrator).
The class will "drip" content weekly. If you staying on track with that schedule, it will take you 10 weeks to do it. I think it will take you longer though to actually finish the work since you are going to be creating a full picture book dummy in addition to a bunch of other stuff. You will own the content so you can take as long as you like. It is not a subscription.
There will be a guided version of the class in the very near future. We aren't totally sure on that price as we are still signing on teachers, etc. One thing to note here, you can sign up for the videos first, and then add the instruction later once that is offered (in other words, you don't have to decide on one or the other).
We will be limiting enrollment on this first round due to the fact that we will be doing a live weekly zoom session with the class. This won't be a critique session per se, but we will be fielding questions and trying to help you out. To be a part of this first rollout, you need to be signed up on the website: www.childrensbookpro.com
Let me know if you have any other questions at all. This should be releasing SOON! We are very proud of it and hope you will join us in this journey! : )

Sounds awesome!

@kylebeaudette I think it will be! This is the class I wish I had 20 years ago. There is a lot of stuff we cover that has never been taught before. Jake's massive page on how the book publishing industry works has to be seen to be believed. My "8 steps to stylizing environments" is content I've never shared before. A lot of the class is that way. We spent a year figuring out the content for what we have included.
We also try to include many "check lists" that you can use when making a book that really speeds things along.

@Lee-White Fantastic, and thanks for the info!
-
Sounds amazing!
-
@Lee-White well this is good news...New content at a much better price than i was imagining ... also it is so difficult for me to take "in person" classes with my schedule (ironically because i'm a teacher) so i am very excited to hear that i can purchase the class and go at my own pace!... and... i believe i may need a new portfolio
-
Couldn't be more excited! I've been struggling to forge my own path into children's book illustration for a year now.
-
@Lee-White If I'm interested in just the guided version of the class do I need to sign up for the videos as well? Or do people in the first rollout get priority for the mentored version?
-
Thanks for the details, @Lee-White! So what you're saying we need to be signed up for the new site, you mean to give our info like we have already done to receive the emails? I take it there is no actual enrollment yet, because I clicked the link and it was still asking for our info to receive updates.
And also, I understand that if we sign up, we can start working through everything on our own, and then the guided part comes later. I would like to do the guided version of the course. Right now I'm in the middle of a another rather intense course, but as I understand it, I still need to sign up right away even to do the guided version later?
Also, when you say the first go round will be limited, do you mean the drip version? And if we miss out (as I did with the office hours, and I have been regretting it ever since), will it come around again within the year? I do feel quite ready for this, and in fact would love to start next month, but just need to make sure I understand the logistics and that they are doable.
Thanks for any clarification!

You may have already answered these questions, but I'm wondering what Children's Book Pro means for SVS?
- Will you still be adding new courses here as well?
- Will you be taking down courses that may overlap?
- Is the intention for people to learn more basic art skills at SVS and then targeted Children's Book skills over there?
Thanks! I just subscribed over here so there are a lot of courses I haven't taken yet (and don't want to miss if they're going away!)
-
@ellenseal14
Yes! still adding a lot of new things for svs! In fact, advanced perspective just wrapped up this week! should be out soon!
We will not be taking any courses away!
SVS is going to be targeted at getting a VERY solid foundation. With the ability to branch off into other specific "majors". Obviously children's book is our flag ship so that is being developed first. SVS will be expanded to have a "workshop" component where studets get feedback from instructors. That is starting VERY soon with an emphasis on the curriculum classes.

Specificity @Lee-White!!! It doesn’t get better than this.
Super excited for this program and looking forward to learning from you guys!
As a family man with responsibilities and full time job in construction, I’m excited with this “go at your pace” model for burning the midnight oil.
-
@Lee-White Fabulous. Thanks so much! I'm looking forward to seeing everything you guys have in store for us.

@Lee-White @Will-Terry @Jake-Parker I'm enrolled in the CBP class and haven't really been able to keep up since my life has been very busy, but I want to make sure I can at least participate in the Discord community. Both links in the first weeks lesson have expired. Could you send me another link so I can access the Discord community? Thank you! I saw at least one other person who couldn't use the links as well.
