MARCH CONTEST: Fairy-Tale Traveler
-
Here is my submission! This was a really fun and creative prompt!
-
@CLCanadyArts I relate to this character a lot. Lovely work!
-
Here is my submission - my first time entering, so excited to be here! My character is based on the indigenous people of Scandinavia - the Sami people (I'm from Sweden - but I've lived abroad since 1994) They are a nomadic people living in harmony with nature and have a close connection to the magic of the forests and mountains of the north.

@emmasleight
Nice, I saw the sami influences immediately I have the same inspiration, mixing viking and sami together. Like the blue hair, it reminds me of Plupp. (a Swedish children’s book character) -
@Sara-Nilsson Tack Sara! Yes the blue hair is from Plupp My first attempt at character design - it was fun, although I immediately want to redo all of it. No time tho as I’m off with the fam on spring break tomorrow - peaked on your Insta and looove your character! So cute and I see the Sami influences. Where in Sweden are you? I was born in Stockholm and grew up in Sigtuna.

@Larue Thank you. I did have a ton of fun with it. At first I was stressing, but then just told myself to draw what I want, and to focus on it being for the folio. If I win, that would just be an added bonus.
-
@Tiffany-Thomas Tiffany yours is just amazing! I love the goblins in silhouette along the bottom. Beautiful work!
-
@emmasleight oh thanks I'm from piteå, small town in the Northern parts of Sweden
-
@erinrew thank you so much! I love yours too, great concept!
-
This one was so hard for me! I watched the Designing Unique and Appealing Characters by Anna Daviscourt which was such an excellent course. So much of the character and movement from the sketches was lost, but I still had fun
-
OOO I forgot to mention that Frances is a Scout Faun - always prepared and hoping to save the village... but they have to learn to ask for help.
-
Here's my entry for this month. Fantasy is not necessarily my thing, so it took me a bit longer to find an idea that I thought would work.

This post is deleted! -
@alicepelot Great texture on the legs.

Petal was not the daughter her parents had hoped for. Unlike the other fairy children who played with fluffy bunnies and beautiful butterflies, Petal made...different sorts of friends. When her quiet village is threatened by a horde of goblins, Petal decides to take matters into her own hands. It just so happens that goblins are horrified by the same critters that Petal loves to befriend. She sets out on a quest to find her helpers, and together they return to vanquish the goblin horde!!

I’m new to the forum,

I studied a lot for this one, rewatching the yeti design critic area and watched to class on Svs. Fingers crossed.

Hi this is Eira, her name means snow and she lives in a secret valley that's under attack. Her love for and abilities to connect with animals is the reson she's been the chosen one to find help saving the valley from goblins. Off she goes scared and feeling lonely.
Before she began her journey the elders gave her an amulet,-keep this close to your hart, they said.
And so she did, not knowing why, until she met Badge! a grumpy but kind badger. From this day he followed alongside her on the quest she's been given, finding help to save her secret valley.(I'm not used to in English, so I hope this story isn't totally off!)
I worked more on this than I usually do, I have the research and story but working on translating it in pictures. Here lies my weakness I think, most of the time I go for pretty rather then expression, trying to change but old habits are hard to fix. Good luck everyone
