Sandcastle Kingdom - Character Design WIP

Some of you might remember a painting a did a while back with the sandcastle and sharks and I wanted to revisit that world and develop some characters as I go through the svs character design course. I was thinking to create some kind of medieval structured kingdom where 2 factions fight for sandcastles but are under threat from the sand sharks.
A big way to go until anything is complete but I did some quick initial sketches of how the characters might look and will explore more shapes and proportions as I develop a group of characters.

I think this looks great! I love how you kept the shape and size ideas in the top corner. My favorites are the prince and the digger - that digger is so cute haha I’m hoping the story is about him/her, I wanna know more about that character! And of course the guards size is impressive - his shape actually reminds me of the robot from big hero six and the unimaginary friend picture book

A small update on the digger characters. I imagine them to be like the worker ants of the world for which there would be many of them digging small and big holes and collecting the sand for the builders. They each wear seaweed as a type of hair which helps to keep them wet and hydrated whereas the higher rank members of society get to wear small buckets filled with water.
@VeronicaMui I'm glad you like the digger I was thinking of it as my main character of the group as well. The guard is looking a bit too much like big hero 6 but I think my redesign (to come soon) moves away for that

I'm thinking that the guard character is very big, but is more of a cuddly and helpful character as opposed to the builder who will be quite brash and angry (and more of a square shape). Did a bunch more thumbnailing and these 3 designs were my favorite.

Oh yea, I love where these are going! I like the redesigned guard, so cute. I can really picture all the little diggers, and love your explanation for the seaweed hair, feels like you really know the world. Can’t wait to watch you flesh this out more
