@Jennifer-Fletcher Yes it’s true airports have some very interesting architecture! I was worry it would look like a spaceship or something hehe.
I tried to make it blurry in the parts that are further away, and keep it less blurry closer to the viewer. Thank you for the feedback!

@Jennifer-Fletcher they felt this type of flyer didn’t warrant the additional budget for coated stock and 4-color printing.

@Maureen-Henry-Artist congradualations! That is so exciting. I'm going to be going through some of that process myself in the next fw months with a short comic I'm illustrating for a self-publishing author I'm teaming up with.

      Hey SVSers!

I am looking for other illustrators interested in joining a new illustration critique group I am forming. Meetings and structure will be dependent on members preferences and availability but these are the rough parameters:

Meet 1x or 2x per month via Google Meet 4 - 6 Illustrators who are preparing to query, querying or already agented Critique individual illustrations for portfolio, book dummy, etc.

If you are interested, please send me an email: shereetomba@gmail.com

      Thanks!

@AustinShurtliff Thank you! I appreciate an open offer for feedback 🙂 It is hard posting when you are a baby illustrator like I am , but I'm working on conquering the fear! There is a lot to take in and learn here, but I appreciate knowing I have somewhere to turn when I need advice on my art!

Great advice from @Mimi-Simon , and I think she figured out the best placement based on those panels. However, those panels aren't optimally planned with text in mind from the start. With the placement of the art, you kind of have no choice but to push the speech bubbles to the corner to make space. The first 4 panels have the text at the top above the art - which isn't ideal because the reader's eye tend to jump from text to text and if you create a straight line above the art between the bubbles, the reader will end up completely jumping over the art and not looking at it. Basically, I recommend spending more time at the thumbnail stage to plan sufficient space for both your art and speech bubbles! The bubbles are an integral part of the visual and need to be taken into account when planning your layout and composition.

Lastly, while I think your speech bubbles aren't too big, I think the text within could be just a smidge smaller so you have a bit more of a margin between the text and the edge of the bubble. Right now, the text isn't breathing so well inside the bubble because it's so close to the edges.

      I hope this helps!

@Laurel-Aylesworth-0 Those types of publishing services or vanity presses want to offer authors an all-in-one service with a one-time fee, and make it as simple as possible, which is why they do a work for hire thing. While it's not standard in the traditional publishing industry and not advantageous for the illustrator, I'm pretty sure this company will consider it a deal breaker if you don't want to sign away your rights. So you have to decide if this is something you're comfortable with or not.

Here are my before and after houses for the "How to Draw Everything" course. There's definitely a lot of things to still learn and improve on (3-D and perspective 😰 ), but I do see a lot of growth already!

      Hi everyone!

One of my portfolio pieces - Duck-tective and Bear-vestigator -
have discovered a clue in the library. In terms of storytelling, I kept the reasoning behind 'why is there slime in the library?' a bit vague as a play on the whole mystery theme.
In terms of visuals, what looks better?

Option 1: Non-glowy slime with both bear and duck standing near each other.
Option 2: Glowy, where duck is closer to the slime? I was having trouble figuring out the areas where the 'glow' would hit the face/body of the duck and/or bear so if it's off let me know!

What are your opinions about the "Stand With Animation!" rally happening this Saturday? I have considered joining since Burbank is a 30-minute drive from where I live. I really wish I was I joined a more creative field.

      Thoughts?
