@eli thank you . I needed emotional art therapy.

I've been doing a fundraiser for a teenage friend who has cancer - selling little pieces of art through my etsy. Its been fun and challenging to keep up with the orders. It feels really good to finish and ship stuff. I don't get to do much of that. These are more tiny art pieces than illustrations, but I'm learning some good techniques.

Today was art day with @kaitlinmakes down by the American River. I did a value study. Itβs not great.

Sketched this a few weeks ago. Finally starting to paint

Some of tonight's studying from Dave's Drawing Fundamentals course β¦
Once I've finished this, I'm going to practice doing a lot of these with the tracing paper technique he said about. I'm fascinated to see what a finished drawing would look like starting out like this, and it'll be cool to have each phase captured on it's own sheet of paper, instead of hidden away under the finished drawing.
That's one thing I would have loved on the course, if Dave had finished each section with a drawing he worked on for a few extra hours, just so we could see how these basic shape phases evolve into a detailed finished drawing.

@burvantill Ha! That those things are still around! A true antique
-
Love this thread! So much inspiration in one place!
Here are some random sketches and rough model drawing I did recently, already preparing for Mermay 2019!
-
Spent some time repainting this. Two of my favorite Christmas characters
-
Final notes from the Drawing Fundamentals course β¦ really enjoyed it β¦ started the Creative Composition one now. I did the intro but had to stop to do some sketching before work, and honestly, I wanted to keep going so much, that intro got me so excited
Played around with a lil 8 minute drawing challenge of Yoshi after lol I do think this is my favourite drawing exercise, it's not just fun, but funny ... also did some 30 second gesture drawing with QuickPoses.com and turned one into a lilSOPHIE character sketch

Skeleton guy I'm sculpting. -
As promised. I photographed on my camera but couldnβt find the connecting cable so back to my iPad. At least my table is cleaner!
-
@heather-boyd woohoo!
Those blue cubes are so tasty looking, what did you use to do them? Love the texture.
Your shapes are always so very crisp and clean; really nice. I also love the paint splashes and what not on your desk ... looks like a proper artists desk
-
Blue pencil crayons: a really old Canadian brand called Laurentien
Haha that texture is a combination of my desk and the 4H pencil I tried to erase afterwards.
Thanks, sometimes I clean my desk up and sometimes I leave it. I do likewise with my palettes. I have one from 1st year college loaded up with acrylic colours.
I am excited for the next January contest, I am hoping one of the two works that I am slowly working through will be a fit. I hope you will participate as well.
Your finished works are super detailed! I forgot to mention that. And your last posts on combining shapes have so much variety, I can get caught up in making things look like things and not just play around especially when I post things.

So many mice so little time

Painted my skeleton guy. -
@heather-boyd So the texture was a happy accident? That's even cooler now
I've not really looked into the contests, but you've got me curious now. Have you done one before Heather? Guess it could be a good way to practice some of the things from the studying sessions.
Here's a couple images from the past week,
lil Thumbnails from the Creative Composition workbook
The current state of my assignment piece β¦
It's the best I can do at the moment, drawing from my imagination feels like a complete reset and really highlights how much I need to learn, but I'm really enjoying how fun it is β¦ especially the thumbnail phase. My digital skills are super limited at the moment, but I did it digitally as I knew I would have to rescale things and play with stuff, I sense I should maybe have stuck to pencil and focused on value instead, but I'm gonna finish the rest of the videos than come back and redo this
Some combining Shapes
Some lilSOPHIE sketches
I'm using lilSOPHIE as an excuse to practice using a brush pen I've also started playing with her proportions a bit, I think the other squished version of her will be a lil-lilSOPHIE
-
@sophie-lawson I like the character work on the bottom the drawing have good flow to them
-
Drafting up a handful of illustrations for my Step-Brother's Christmas gift; I'll be taking three of his go-to usernames and bringing them to life Here's the first! (Divine Oranges)
-
@jabbernewt That gave me a laugh. What a fun Christmas present.

Working on padding my portfolio with more kid lit type stuff. Trying to get a lot more practice with expressions and posture. Did these on my lunch break today.
