@griffin Your local value is looking better in terms of distinguish objects from one another. And certain objects can vary in what local value they have, example wood and pottery. So I'd look at what area of the image you want focus on (from my understanding the greater the contrast the more the first read). So I read the jug and the plates in the shelf first (also because they are closer together). I do like that you've balanced the lighter values out over the room (edited version I just realized that -I think that's good). I realize you'll have characters in time, but they will be in a certain area and doing something in the story. That's my understanding.

A side note, the top of your rocking chair is missing -it's been cut off along the line of the stairs or is it meant to be hiding under the stairs? -that confuses me a bit.
