MerMay: Trucks in a Bottle
-
This image resulted from the idea of bottles floating in the ocean. I thought about in what context glass bottles live in the mermaid world and that led me to thinking about how sometimes people build ships in bottles. If a mermaid were to do the same, perhaps they would be more interested with land vehicles, being sea creatures themselves.
I think the rough layout is done...although I think the work table/rock needs to be fixed perspective-wise. Any feedback or things I'm overlooking is greatly appreciated.

love the idea an the and the way it looks
-
this looks great so far, looking forward to seeing it progress! It's a great idea.
-
@shinjifujioka Great idea! Will she be sitting on a chair or on the ground? I think it might look nice if she was sitting on an old wood chair or something like that.
-
I love the concept
-
@Chip-Valecek I hadn't thought of her sitting on a chair or anything...just kind of standing/floating as she moves the bottle from the shelf to the table. I'll sketch in a stool and see if it reads well. Thanks for the suggestion!
-
Very clever!
-
looking good @shinjifujioka ! I'd just be careful and avoid any tangents while you refine the sketch..with so many elements in the scene, things can get very close to each other.
I'd suggest tilting the head a bit lower as well to make look more towards the truck.
All the best!

@Darian Oh, I'm already running into issues, haha. I have to be better at answering all the design questions before starting on coloring.
-
I'm wanting to wrap this up and upload it to the Mermay thread. Before I do, are there any glaring fixes that I might be missing? Depending on how much time I have, I may be able to do a few tweaks before the 31st.

I like it as it is, it is very outstanding in story and composition
-
I love this concept and really awesome characer design! I'm liking the composition a lot, especially that you have added details in the foreground as well. Very nice work! If I were to say something, maybe you can push the contrasts between light and shadow a little bit more? Or maybe add a glow from her skin/scales? I'm imagining that her scales would reflect the sun rays and create a shimmering and almost magical effect
But I really like what you have done so far!

IT is fabulous! The only thing that struck out at me (because I am struggling with it right now) is the direction of light being consistent-does that make sense?
-
@lmrush Could you elaborate on that? This one was a bit tricky for me because I don't know how light reflects off rocks in water. There is one light source out of frame, and then the hole in the rock. I tried to make it seem like the light is reflecting throughout the room, but maybe that isn't working?
-
@KajsaH Thanks! I'll see if I can push the lighting a bit.
-
Wow this looks awesome!
-
@Andy-Nichols-Art Thanks Andy!
-
Awesome and clever concept!
-
@shinjifujioka Cute idea

@shinjifujioka I am no expert so @lee white, @Jake-Parker @Will-Terry step in here if you can. I tried to type out what I meant, then just decide an image would be easier. Obvioulsy this is really dark and the values are exaggerated, I did it just so I could easily draw the light directions I meant. I would love to hear from the experts as I would hate to lead you astray!
