MerMay Community Feed
-
Hey all, I just wanted to make a group feed (or chum?) for anyone to post their Mermay art, last year I made a list of fish and aquatic animals as prompts and I have included my new one this year here, but BY NO MEANS do you HAVE to use my prompts. There is also the Official list made by Tom Bancroft as well as non-list narrative prompts like the cool stuff @Dima-Eichhorn is doing. Do whatever floats your boat!
Even if you just post ONE Mermaid here I hope you will get involved and encourage everyone who posts here.
My goal also is to receive Critiques, if you have thoughts on any of my mermaids please share them.
Cheers and best of Luck!

This is exciting!! I definitely want to join in this year - I’ve been waiting for months! I love your word list - it’s way more inspirational than I found the OG prompt list.
-
This looks like fun! Thanks for sharing. I've never heard of most of these fish so it'll be fun to just look them up and see what ideas they inspire.
-
@andersoncarman Ohhhh this looks like fun!! And in May I'm launching an art business called... Sweet Siren! LOL! So I'm really tempted to try to fit this in my schedule!!
-
I might give a go at one or a few. I have a lot on my plate. I am interested in seeing yours for sure to help fuel mine, since I don’t really draw people.
-
@andersoncarman great idea... and thank you for mentioning my project.
May I share my drawings also and here...I am using the words from official prompt...
Happy Mermay! -
What a great idea.... Are we sharing our work here?
-
@Dima-Eichhorn Yea totally!

@Laurasketches Yep! anyone can post their mermaids, whether they follow a prompt or not.

Here is my first one based on a Goby

Hey there, SVS team, here is my first Mermay sketch/WIP. I had the thought to combine the official prompt list with the fish list @andersoncarman provided... So, here is my socialite mermaid, living the extravagant life with her toy pet goby. Please critique before I send her to paint...

Day 1!!!
-
It's really cool seeing everyone's different takes.
I often use a primary prompt list and then use some extras because I find it adds interest to my creations for these contests.
This time my primary prompt list was based on gemstones and secondary ones were based on foods, drinks and random paraphernalia. I also decided to put them all in bottles to add a cohesiveness.First one was: Amethyst, cupcake, ice cream and floral.

@Dima-Eichhorn I really like how you are presenting these, it really adds a nice visual touch. I'm also looking forward to seeing where the story goes.

Day 2: Sunfish
These fish are crazy odd looking. -
@Laurasketches I love it! Especially the detail of the "leash" on her Goby, I cant wait to see it in color.
