Group run through creative environment design week 3 art and feedback

@murielle Wow, thank you!
-
@murielle These have all been so inspiring here-and with yours I am now starting to see how they will help you and others make great environments. (It was a head-slapping "dah" kind of realization...)
-
So I also drew a barn and silo as @Coley did (great minds think alike) but mine looked so similar that I decided to try a new one and did this space rocket launch pad. I don’t know if it strains the definition of “building” too far but it was something I’d never attempted before as is obvious from some obvious structural problems. I’ve added an overlay of the assignment so you can see that I did at least adhere to the lines.
-
I officially gave up on the sofa design. But I tried to put in some work on the other building. I'm just not feeling it.
With the houses, I still felt it was related to work I wanted to do, and I felt more motivated to give that a try.I don't like this design and I can see so many mistakes (perspective and all), but it's all I got.
-
@murielle did you use any references? Can you show them?
-
@Heather-Boyd Yes and no. I used the reference below, but it was only as inspiration. I wanted the 'open' areas to be windows. Like an office building.
-
@demotlj I think it looks great! I'm no expert on perspective but it looks good to me. From dairy barn to rocket.... Maybe the first cow in outer space? seriously though, it looks structurally sound to me and a good image.

Hey everyone, I'm going to take a break from these exercises. I'm short on time, and since I'm really not happy with my results on this exercise I want to redo them. I had hoped to get a lot more out of this then I did.
I will pick up again when my crazy schedule dies down.
-
Work got me a bit behind last week, but hopefully I can catch up. Here's my hut.
-
@murielle Nothing wrong with a redo! Good luck on them. You can always join us in the Discord server if you want to talk more and get extra feedback.
-
Sorry I couldn't reply to anyone until now! The amount they charge for wifi at comic conventions is utterly criminal (200 bucks for 4 days) and my data plan suuuuuuuuuuucks.
But now I'm caught up! So much awesome work
I'll be posting week 4 sometime tomorrow!
-
So many awesome designs!
Week 4 work and such is up!

@Coley Nice work! I particularly like the first couch. You got real ambitious with the silo on that barn
I'll do a draw-over of some thing later on today.
Sorry it took me a little while to get back to you! I've been out of town/busy.
-
@Braden-Hallett no worries! I realized after you were crazy busy!
-
Week 3 I am here. lols I will be doing two other houses, so week 3 will probably push into week 5 as well. This first one frustrated me a lot and the reason why I omitted the roof tiles for wood. But I am happy with it at the end of the day. It really pushed my shape and perspective building work.
-
Okeedokee!
So with your couch, I'm gonna try and think of the design lessons we're learning. At first glance, it looks to me like it's a couch that's fairly symmetrical.
I messed aboot with aligning it more along some thirds, and it came out a bit more interesting (I think?) It's hard to juggle both design principles AND perspective rules
Which brings me to the barn. I like the design! i always have a hard time with roofs, so that nice multi angled slant to the roof is neato.
However, when it comes to the silo, I would revisit how to construct spheres and cylinders in perspective (take a look at the 'how to draw anything' class). the top of the silo is a half a sphere plopped on top of a cylinder, but it looks a little elongated to me.
Nice work so far
-
@Heather-Boyd It looks great, I really like your shapes. The curved base around the house and retaining wall is a really nice addition!
-
@Braden-Hallett Your draw over of @Coley couch is really helpful. I’ve been vague about how to apply the third and fifth rules to these and that made it much clearer.
-
2nd House/Hut/Village Hotel lols. Do my roofs look correct? I wouldn't mind a draw over if you can spare some time. And is my person too larger for my rooms? Thanks
