Hello! I'm Al.
-
Hi, folks! I'm Allan Lorde, an illustrator and graphic designer from Winnipeg, MB (the home wrestlers Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega, the Guess Who, and Monty Hall of Let's Make a Deal. Also the early stomping grounds of Neil Young and Roddy Piper.)
As far as what I do, I've been involved in the local graphic design and illustration scene for nearly 20 years, starting with creating gig posters for hometown and international acts. Once I graduated from the graphic design program at Red River College in 2005, I've been employed by several companies in the area while doing posters and fun illustration stuff as a side hustle.
I've been a fan of Jake's work for a while and a participant in Inktober since 2013. This year's Inktober has plagued me with the feeling that something's missing in my work...besides backgrounds. It could be a self-esteem thing (nine times outta ten it's just that), but I also feel a need to level up, so I dropped a couple of bucks on How to Ink 2.0, and I've got my eye on How to Draw Gesture.
It feels weird to be dipping my toes in the world of forums again, but I have to admit that I've missed them. The last one I was truly active in revolved around the world of gigposters.com (RIP) and the things I learned from there were invaluable and couldn't be found in a textbook. I hope this place has the same vibe.
Long story short, I'm here to learn, and hopefully, make a few friends. You can find my portfolio at allanlorde.com and my illustration IG is (at)misterlorde. Thanks for reading if you've managed to get this far in my lengthy intro, and I hope life is treating you well.

@misterlorde Welcome! I think you'll like it here. EVERYONE is helpful, kind and talented.

@misterlorde Hello Allan
I'm new here too … but it seems like a nice place to be, and I know what you mean about missing forums. I was only thinking that myself the other day … something about being on a forum feels good. I've missed that feeling too.
If you want to focus on Gestures … have you heard of
• QuickPoses.com
or
• Croquis Café ?These are my two favourite art resources online. Croquis Café is like being at a Life Drawing Class, only it's all done on YouTube, and QuickPoses is just amazing for practicing Gestures over and over and over and over and over again plus you can earn certificates and it tracks all your stats

@burvantill That's really good to hear! Thank you so much.

@sophie-lawson Hello, Sophie! Yes, I've heard of both, and I've really been interested in Croquis lately. It seems really cool!
