SCWBI narrative contest. See any last minute fixes?
-
Hi guys! I hammered out some illustrations for the SCBWI narrative contest. Does anyone here have any suggestions for last minute tweaks before I submit?
Thanks

@art-of-b Not sure but the first image looks like it is in a cave? but later the dragon is sitting on a mountain? maybe I'm missing something. Looks great I like the shapes

Awesome!

So good! Can't see anything that need fixing. Good luck in the contest!

@art-of-b I think they look great. Not sure on the submission guidelines but are they requiring a spot illustration? If not i would recommended making your first illustration a full page like the others. I think they would flow better.

Hi @Art-of-B !
Great work
I see 3 things
- Same as @rcartwright , I don't understand the location. The first image he looks in a cave, but not the other two...
- I did a paint over for this one bacause it was hard to explain, but the way the dragon mouth is in the 2nd image, it looks like the dragon is about to eat the egg... I think the composition would read better this way :
- Very quick fix. There is something a little....... phallic about the guy's chin in the 3rd image...
Othewise, great work! Awesome design

Oh dear... The images certainly do not decode as I intended...
Ah well! Thanks for the feedback
Always learning something for next time, right?

Good call.
I was aiming to have the first and last images match a little bit with the border and implied border. Kind of like book ends.
I'll see about just having the first one as less of a spot illustration, though.
Thanks, Chip

That chin does look a little... Turgid, I suppose, doesn't it? Fixed!
I think when I revisit these to maybe stick them in the portfolio I'll change the second image so the dragon is in front of its egg. That's a good call.
As for the cave then no cave, I found in the second image that rendering the rocks took away from the dragon and made the smoke harder to make out. Wrong call, I suppose Then in the third image the idea was that the cave was utterly filled with dragony smoke.
Thanks for the feedback
