Very first digital art, critiques/comments welcome
-
Hi all, my name is Adrian, I'm new to SVS and have been really enjoying all that is offered here. So here's a little bit about me. I'm 38 (non professional) and up until now I've been working in strictly traditional media, mainly ink and watercolor although I'm familiar with multiple other mediums. I've alway resister digital art in the past, seeing it as a bit of a cheat (at least for myself), preferring the earthy tactile feel of traditional media. Well for several reasons, about a month ago I decided to make the move to digital art and so got set up on an iPad and procreate. now after a sharp learning curve, here's my first piece. its a take on ''Little red ridding hood''. Please any critiques or comments are very welcome. Thanks all.

What a beautiful first try into digital! Best of luck to you!

I really like it!
Before I throw some thoughts out there, Is this cropped from a larger image?
-
@adrian-k wow for your first time doing it, its pretty amazing! It took me years to get anywhere with digital art and still learning.

Updated for clarity. no not croped, I did a few thumb nails and determined if I wanted to maintain any detail on the mouse it needed to be a closer more intamit view. Although in my original thumbnail I did draw the entire fox for correct proportion

Cool! I would do a draw-over but I'm away from my tablet...
I would either remove the fox's tail entirely, or give it more of a presence in the picture. A dark, close up for a tail right up against the viewer in the foreground might be neat. However where it is right now it takes a few moments to decode (at least for me).
I would try and identify and remove any tangents in the piece (where the mouse's tail brushes against the fox's, and where the mouse's left paw intersects with the background).
Overall a really neat piece, though! I like it

@art-of-b thank you, I can see what you’re saying, I’ll make the corrections

Lovely the animals are beautifully painted

Alright, so here are the revisions. I think it reads a bit better now. I'm open to any other thoughts.

@adrian-k Stunning image. It feels like an oil painting to me. Love your textures. It's a great piece already, but if you want heighten the drama and focus, I'd darken the fox a bit which will let further enhance the spotlight on the mouse. Right now, everything-- the mouse, flower and fox-- is getting my attention.

Thank you. I did take about 2 weeks to just play with brushes and familiarize myself with the program. It probably shows that my approach is very traditional, and it’s not like I’ve never picked up a paint brush before

Though I hate loosing detail (that’s where I usually lose my self) here’s the revision pulling the fox back into the shadows more.
