OLD AND NEW CONTEST WINNERS
Another month has come and gone and it was a great pleasure to view the entries for this one. I think this was probably the hardest prompt we have had and I really liked what you guys did with it. That said, we had fewer entries because I think it was a little too hard for some beginners to tackle. So if you have an entry this month, I want to commend you for going for it!
So let's dive in and check out the winners!
WINNER: JOHANNA PUHL
I knew this was going to be a tough one to beat right when I saw it posted. THe concept is clear and the overall technique and color balance is flawless. Everything is working in harmony here and I just love it.
2nd Place: Viktor Nassli (@nasvikdraws)
A lot of people used an older person vs. new in the illustration as a way to tackle the prompt. Viktor's stood out to me because of the fantastic styling and color choices. It's an instant read that would work great as an editorial illustration.
3rd Place: Gary Wilkinson (@GWillustration)
Gary nailed this one with the bright toys in the background and the kid wandering off into the dark. It's interesting that a lot of people gave a negative take on technology vs. older analog things like books and toys. I saw this one evolving on the forums and really appreciate the work and care that went into it.
Runners up: (in no particular order)
David Ingalls: Really cool retro image with the turbines in the background. Very clean styling and design make this such an attractive image.
I love this image. It reminds me of the old vs. new that is in Star Wars. A primitive fire scene with the space ship in the background is such a great way to address this concept. This looks like the beginning of a story that I'd love to know more about.
This image is beautifully drawn and has so much potential as a children's book image. I hope there is a story that you can work this image into. Very nice handling of detail, value, and color. The is a pro level image for sure.
Another great one by Eunji. I am blown away by how good this design is and the overall concept is spot on. Great image as usual!
Alright, that will do it for this month's challenge. I'll be announcing another one very shortly. Sorry for the delay but we are moving and it's chaos around here right now. Keep up the good work! : )

@johanna-kim So ready to read this book! Ha ha! Loving Frank and Ophelia! Also the fact the two of the dogs are wearing cones makes me laugh and also makes me wonder what happened!? Congratulations.
@eli Thanks so much! I'm so glad it made you laugh and curious. That's a good sign that there's a story in there somewhere.
