August Contest: Design A Superhero
-
Holy summer vacation, Batman! It's time for a new prompt!
The prompt for August is: Design A Superhero.
We want to see a character sheet of your original human superhero
Every entry must have 5 color drawings on ONE page:
1 neutral pose front, 3/4 view
1 neutral post back, 3/4 view
1 walking or running pose
1 superhero action pose
1 close up of face
Like in our previous character design challenges, be sure to include some ātraitsā about your superhero. What is their superhero name? What is their superpower? What is their weakness?
How can you make your superhero stand out from the vast multiverse of superheroes out there?
As always, be sure to submit via the Critique Arena website.
Please note that the Submit Your Art! button will now take you to your SVSLearn student account, where you will be prompted to log in and submit your image in the Critique Arena course.
And we would love it if you post your final entry right here too so everyone can check it out and comment!
Entries are due by Aug 31.
Good luck everyone!

@LisaF hereās my first entry this month
-
I couldnāt resist one more challenge before my subscription expires since I love comics and had already created this character.
-
Okay this has got to be the coolest thing I think I have ever done. I researched the style from the Incredibles which was a fascinating read. I tried to emulate that lineless graphic style, I also freely took inspiration from Teen Titans and Cloak and Dagger. I imagine this might be an alternative universe child of Batman. Haha.
My students gave me the idea of chasing the coat.
Apparently now you can only submit one work. I am glad I put this one in first rather than the other. I don't think I would do comics any other way now. LOVE THIS STYLE!
-
@chrisaakins Very cool!!! Chasing the shadow is so clever and fun! And love this style, too. Looks professional.
-
@chrisaakins Ask @Asyas_illos. You can still do multiple entries ā you just have to email additional entries instead of use the form.
-
@chrisaakins yes you can still have more than one entry, but it has to get emailed directly to @AustinShurtliff at least thatās how it was before, apparently he no longer handles that part of it so maybe someone will chime in with the appropriate address? Wait I found the email! itās Annalise support@svslearn.com
-
@Johanna-Kim thank you Johanna! I appreciate the encouragement
-
@Asyas_illos good to know. Although I donāt even like my other one now. Haha.
-
Even though I can't really enter this....I couldn't pass up doing a super hero.
The rest of the images for the character.
His name is Bolt.
His body constantly absorbs energy from every surrounding sources (radiation, ambient energy, direct energy and the energy his body produces from eating) and stores it in his body. This has caused him to lose all of his hair and must wear a protective suit that keeps water from getting on his skin. When it does, his skins bubbles and burns from not being able to handle the contact. He has the ability to channel all of that built up energy into a massive electrical blast which at full power is insanely destructive. The effort leaves him exhausted and starving. -
-
(My wife is a therapist and inspired this.) -
Frog Man! Yup, super original name...lol.
Still debating on my librarian...Hope to post her soon.
-
Libby the Librarian!
Went back and forth on the mask, but with a bit of a colour adjustment it's grown on me; though she rocks her powers without it too
-
I think this is ready to go. Let me know if you have any last-minute suggestions for improvements. Thanks everyone, this was challenging but fun!
-
I think heās finished. Thank you everyone who helped me figure Captain Toots out!
Good luck, everyone! Lot of great heroes in here already.
-
Here she goes! Good luck everyones!
-
@KevinTreaccar this turned out so good!
-
First time posting here, not sure if Iām doing this right. But anyway hereās my attempt at designing a super hero. Not my normal medium or topic of choice but a very good exercise to stretch my brain and skills.
