Hey all you procreaters lol. I’m still pretty new to digital painting and I’ve been wanting to recreate my watercolors is there a way to get the dimpling effect of watercolor paper to the “canvas” prior to painting? Or a tool that will have that effect. Plain old watercolor brush doesn’t cut it for me. Thank you

Hi Asya! In Procreate, I haven't found a watercolor brush that I super love yet, but I did download some from a forum that were called Abbie's watercolor brushes, which are way better than the ones that come with the program. There are so many free brushes available it's worth spending time browsing for them.
For the surface texture, I'd suggest scanning a rough paper or importing or creating a texture file to work on as a base layer or multiply layer maybe. Have you tried something like that yet? -
@Valerie-Light like I said I’m super noob at digital I don’t think I could create a texture file if my life depended on it lol! But I will definitely look into getting some new brushes thanks for tip!

I'm a medium noob at digital, and I'm sure there are way better ways to do all the things I try to get Procreate to do. Happy to help explain some of the stuff I'm surely figuring out the hard way.

Hi @Asyas_illos, simply photograph or scan a sheet of watercolor paper and set it to overlay and adjust opacity. Ensure it’s the top layer.
Have fun!

@Jeremy-Ross thank you I should have tried this befor paying for file on Etsy but I am loving it also downloaded some brushes I post when I’ve got some doodling done! Thanks again!

@Asyas_illos not sure if this will work for you but I personally love using watercolor brushes from Matty B. You can check out some examples here to see if you like them.

Been playing a lot with my new digital watercolors. I might have taken some style notes from David hohn’s jump sesh...
-
@Lynniesketches thank you I will check them out!

@Asyas_illos THis looks really good! I agree with whoever said to import watercolor background. I bought Grutbrushes for my photoshop and for Procreate. They are by far the best ones I have used so far, especially on Photoshop.
-
@chrisaakins thank you! I will look into grutbrushes. I’ll definitely be doing more watercolors now that I’ve got the right tools! And I’m sure to add more to my “inventory”.
-
@Asyas_illos I just checked them out too (and bought them) you can get all procreate brushed for 11 dollars right now!
-
@Kevin-Longueil nice! How many brushes does it come with?
-
@Asyas_illos 167 brushes - plus any new ones that they make within the next 6 months - even if I only find one brush that I like somewhere in that 167 I will be happy
-
@Kevin-Longueil wow that’s a lot definitely worth it!
