Hi everyone!

One of my portfolio pieces - Duck-tective and Bear-vestigator -
have discovered a clue in the library. In terms of storytelling, I kept the reasoning behind 'why is there slime in the library?' a bit vague as a play on the whole mystery theme.
In terms of visuals, what looks better?

Option 1: Non-glowy slime with both bear and duck standing near each other.
Option 2: Glowy, where duck is closer to the slime? I was having trouble figuring out the areas where the 'glow' would hit the face/body of the duck and/or bear so if it's off let me know!

What are your opinions about the "Stand With Animation!" rally happening this Saturday? I have considered joining since Burbank is a 30-minute drive from where I live. I really wish I was I joined a more creative field.

@Mimi-Simon Whoa! I'm loving the idea of charcoal. I hadn't thought about the aspect of it being cheap, but I really appreciate that because I've been using just 3 Copic grayscale markers for months and am finding I need a LOT of ink and nibs, and that can get expensive. The video is fantastic by the way. Thank you!!

When I was learning perspective, this kind of 2-point perspective confused me a lot! That's because we think of a traditional 2-point perspective where both vanishing points are on the horizon line. But in a traditional 2-point perspective (or 1-point for that matter), all the top-to-bottom lines always stay perfectly vertical (unless the canvas itself is rotated) and parallel to one another. In this case they are not, which is the clue that there is another vanishing point.

To tilt top-to-bottom lines, you'll have either a vanishing point in the sky (the zenith) for a bottom up perspective or a vanishing point deep in the earth (the nadir) for a top down perspective. It actually helps me to think of this illustration as a 1-point perspective + zenith instead of thinking of it as a 2-point perspective. That always just confuses me!

This thread turned to by just my own WIP, so I'll add here the final result too. I did my best to make the characters read well over the background, feel like it is still a bit muddled but pfeeew... I will stop now. Big thanks for the feedback received!!

I just noticed and listened to the 3PP Podcast on mindset on the drive home today and wanted to say my article was purely coincidental. I did enjoy it very much and glad to hear so much advice on the growth vs. fixed mindset.

Hi! I like the title, for me "adventuring" feels like a fun word, and I like the font with the little gnome hat too. I also like the general graphic look of the composition. I would think it is a good base. As pointed out, feels too bland for a cover though. I think a cover might relay just on a very simple strong graphic, or be a rich detailed image and I think yours is too inbetween. And being a children's book cover you probably want to go more towards the "rich"? Maybe by adding some more personality to the dragon and textures? Now the dragon looks a bit nondescript and there is too much blank space everywhere. By "nondescript" I think I mean he does not have any expression, he is not fierce, not cute either... If you don't want to depict the hero in the image, at least the dragon should have some character... Or the dragon could be just a graphic suggestion but Ii think in this case you should show the hero... The spiral around the title is too simple and brown... I think it stands for "the adventure," so it might have a forest texture or some interesting light.. Some detail...I hope what I said makes sense and is helpful! Good luck! :)))

July is about to end, and many of my serious intentions are put on stanby due to holiday activities. Some minimal work is happening though...

I’m working on Assignment 2: People as Shapes from the Introduction to Gesture Drawing class. I've completed 12 out of the 20 required drawings so far. I’ve attached a few of the stronger ones from this batch and would greatly appreciate any constructive feedback you can offer. I’m eager to improve my skills and would value your insights.

Thanks guys! You've all had such great suggestions. Such a great place to come as usual. Very keen to try out a couple of these.

@lpetiti You're made great progress. Some things I want to flag. The character still looks Indistinguishable from an adult. As an example of what you can do, in the following image I shifted the eyes to be lower, giving a more juvenile proportion.

This might go against what I said about being faithful to the reference model... The eyeglass frame could be more complimentary to the character. Look up frames for round faces.

The lower legs I think you were going for plump, but instead look swollen. I would straighten the outer sides of the legs so that the skin looks lean against the bone. Shoes/feet could less dome-shaped, more snout-like.

Lastly, the character could benefit from having a more contemporary attire. She doesn't have to look like a child model for the GAP, but less like an aid worker.
I think I now know what the attire is based on and will keep quiet now 🙊
