Our SVS Virtual Studio January 2π₯³2π!

After school got out for the winter break, I turned back to the show I'm mounting in March, for which I'm designing and building/borrowing/begging/stealing the costumes. It's called The Visit by Durrenmat, written in the mid-50s (which we are updating, somehow, to today?!?). The richest woman in the world comes home to her hometown in Switzerland, and gifts the town with a billion marks, half going to the town and half to be divided between the residents. But she has one condition: they must kill the man who ruined her life. It's... dark... Ahem. It's also big: 78 costume changes... It has been a bit of a nightmare...
But then I've also been playing with some new watercolor brushes in Procreate and doodling with different texture effects and getting back into gesture drawing. I've also been pondering some long term personal projects which has really made the new year start off on a good note!
So in the end, it's all good!

I got a couple of things for xmas. A cheap set of beginner watercolours, and a printer. The printer I wanted so I could make my own prints for cons without breaking the bank (if the 'ecotank' prints 1/10 as much as it says it does I'll be saving a bit of money). But I decided this time I'd actually use the bloody scanner. Scavenged some old watercolour paper and I'm splashing about to create neato textures. I plan on adding colour digitally, so I'm just using black and white.
-
@Braden-Hallett I had just about given up on printing from home. I purchased an Epson eco-tank printer, black and white. I love it! The ink is lasting and it is less expensive. LuckiIy I have a great print shop near by for color.
-
@deborah-Haagenson So far I'm very happy with mine, too I bought a wide format super awesome printer a few years ago, but it just GOBBLES ink. So after some test prints I think the eco tank'll work out pretty well
-
@Braden-Hallett I am looking to buy a printer this year as well. I mainly want to print sketches on watercolor paper and painted over. I am also looking into the print quality that I can sell prints in the art and craft market.
Just curious: does your eco-tank printer takes thick watercolor paper?

It'll take the watercolour paper that epson makes (which is pretty reasonably priced for watercolour, I think). It only comes in 13x19 sheets though so there'd need to be some trimming.
In general inkjet printers won't take any ol' kind of paper. They need a coating for the ink and the printer likes to know precisely how thick the paper it's being fed is.
I've tried jamming just regular ol' watercolour paper in my wide format epson printer and it was an unhappy camper in many ways.
So I suppose my answer is 'yes, but only this very specific watercolour paper'
It's this stuff. https://epson.ca/For-Work/Paper/Pro-Imaging/Watercolor-Paper-Radiant-White/m/S041351

@Braden-Hallett learning new things every day :smiling_face_with_open_mouth: thank you.

Hope everyone had an awesome New Year's eve!
Starting 2020 I finished this two, and made a video time lapse on the one about The Little Red Riding Hood: https://youtu.be/9OSwwMYfqfM
I hope you guys like it.
Cheers!

My girls created some characters for a Gravity Falls rpg we are playing and I drew them out per their descriptions.

Iβm playing with paper β I inked and painted (watercolor) these three fox pups on Bristol Board and now will try them on hot press and then cold press papers to compare. The Bristol board takes ink really well but is fussier to paint so it will be interesting to see whether the hot press is any different.

That's gotta be a crazy fun game to play
-
@Braden-Hallett Well, we haven't actually played yet. None of us have played an rpg before, and there isn't a game set up for Gravity Falls- so we've been doing prep work and research for it. That process has been a lot of fun though! We'll see how it goes.

'kids on bikes' is a great roleplaying system (super simple) that's aimed at younger RPG players. It's also thematically VERY gravity falls

I was digging through the hard drive and found an image I was going to do for the 'old and new' challenge about a year and a half ago. I really like the concept, so I'm redoing it I think it'll make a near postcard!
-
Youβve really improved since then! Woah! Super cool!
-
@KathrynAdebayo Thanks You don't realize how much improvement's happened until you dig through old files.

Playing with ideas for Valentineβs Day. Got a bit stuck in the 80βs

Hi I'm new here. This year's goal is to start indie publishing a book with my wife. I am pretty new to both painting and working digitally so I have been trying to get a better handle on both. Here is a start of a concept dragon and a tree sketch.
-
@Braden-Hallett This is so lovely. Good luck

I am working on my fundamentals. This year is the year, I have decided to finally go for my dreams, therefore need to get my basics right
