@Braden-Hallett
If you know doctor who with David tenant and Billie Piper in the episode called the Army of Ghosts check out the implications of that sphere haha!
I've been trying to do this using my own photos and, while they're not brilliantly artistic shots, I'm surprised at how many of the lighting situations I can cover.
I don't think I want to put them on Pinterest as there are quite a few with friends' kids, etc. so currently figuring out the best way to organise on my PC.
However, I will share that I once managed to capture one of those spheres illustrators are always drawing, out in the wild:
Here's what I have so far - getting there a bit late

I'm going to just keep setting up sub-sections under the lighting category so this should grow in the next few days.
I'va also started to collect from my private photos ... Having the same problem as @neschof: Too many of my kids. Too many bums I'll sort those out and share the rest with you. And I'm getting distracted with those photos all the time. I havn't seen them for ages.
I started a Pinterest board. Feel free to pin from my board:

@neschof The sphere... It haunts me...
REPIN PARTYYYYYYYY! Or something like that We'll all have awesome reference libraries from out collected research.
@Meta @neschof Feel free to share only if you're totally comfortable I totally understand not wanting personal photos on the interwebs

If anyone hasn't been to this resource yet, it is friggin' amazing. I particularly like looking at the Laika movies (box trolls, coraline, etc) since they're physical models lit in real life (so staged, but still real light for the most part I think)
@Coley Oh I missed this! Congratulations!
@BichonBistro thanks
Ok, I've pinned my photos that don't have people in them and now I'm going to take a look at all your lovely boards and join the repin party!

Yes, a big trip down memory lane!
Added a ton of new images and also specifically a lot lot of shadow and reflected light on both men and women for reference.
@Braden-Hallett very cool resource. Wow
@xin-li I know, right!?
Just wanted to say that I went ahead and ran through the pre-reqs that Will suggests and they were both awesome. Took about 1.5 hours each and was definitely worth it. I took color and value classes in school but it had been awhile, and some of the things they talked about I a fairly sure I never learned. I'm going to get started on this one now!
@carlianne haven't had time to look at this yet--which courses did you run through first that Will recommended?
Iβd like to join in too if thatβs ok. It looks like youβre all getting so much more out of it working together.
@peteolczyk and and all are welcome at all times Get that reference gathered! Next week we get to start some painting

I just watched them too. It's "light and shadow" and "the magic of color". Will mentions them in the intro to painting colour and light 2.0
As @carlianne found, I knew a lot of the stuff already but it was good to get a refresher and there were a couple of points that were new to me.
Hello there! I have to say goodbye for now ... I thought, I'd manage to take part in the run-through, but I'm already running through the rest of my life without managing (many birthdays in december, and guess what - christmas!); and from tomorrow on a lot of travelling. I'll either try to catch up when I'm back after Christmas, or I just relax a bit and watch what you guys were accomplishing. Have a good time and see you soon!
