@skillydan the perspective one works better for me. I would do that one but maybe have the baby closer to the window bending over and peaking in. It might be cropping out the right side a little but it might add more story to it.
WIP Giant Baby
-
Hi everyone.
I'm working on a piece at the minute of a giant baby walking through a neighbourhood. A parent of the baby will be in the foreground in a window saying "Honey, where's the baby?"
I figured this was a good opportunity to stretch my perspective muscles. After doing most of the perspective leg work I started to wonder whether the piece would work better with flat straight on buildings (I've sketched out an image below to try and explain what I mean). The choice between perspective and flat shapes is a pretty fundamental design choice and feels like it could be a decision between which age group the artwork is targeted at.
So I guess I'm looking for critique on whether I should use perspective here and critique on the perspective itself.
Thanks

@Chip-Valecek thanks for the feedback. That's a good point about having the baby peeking in. One of my thumbnail sketches had the baby reaching for a yapping dog and in another he was climbing up a building. I'll revisit these and your suggestion. Thanks

I agree with @Chip-Valecek that the perspective one is more effective. And I love these.

Thanks @Eli

I prefer the perspective one too, maybe the baby could be chasing a dog/cat or something down the street instead? I'd also look at the baby's arms again, they kind of have a bit of a popeye look to them at the moment and I'm finding them a bit distracting.
The baby's face is really cute though and your perspective will be brilliant when you develop this furtherLook forward to see how it progresses!

Thanks @hannahmccaffery. Yeah you guys are right. Some sort of interesting interaction needs to be taking place.
Good point about the babies arms. I maybe pushed the pudgy cuteness a bit too far. An earlier sketch had the chunky rolls of baby fat that looked a bit more like the Michellin Man crossed with a body builder.
Thanks for the feedback

@skillydan I like the perspective one too. For some reason, it feels like the road is maybe tilted a little bit? Might be worth double checking that the house and the road meet at a right angle. Great job with the baby shapes!
