NOVEMBER COMPETITION TOPIC: SLOW
-
Slow entry - Isle of Dog. Part of a series I'm slowly creating called See Creatures. About other-world creatures from myths and legends and their just as strange modern day counterparts.I posted this too early the other day - should've been WIP. I wasn't being slow enough.
-
My oldest son just started to drive, so the first thing that popped in my head was how he would be at a stop light LOL
-
And... I'm not sure this submission is right for this forum, but I DID go slow and work on this painting for the month.
Romeo & Juliet
Act III Scene V -
@sarah-luann LOVE IT. What a unique idea, and definitely fits the topic.
-
@sarah-luann Love this! I like the dark colors and the composition
-
Up high... down low... around the back... TOO SLOW!!!
-
@Laurasketches oh, I love a good watercolor. That’s beautiful. Soooo beautiful. And that moment, they surely wanted to last forever. For time to just slow down. Beautiful piece.
@Chip-Valecek I was wondering when grandma was coming! You have a driver, good luck man! Piece turned out nice!
@Jon-Anderson that pesky little dog. I bet he grabs shoes and toys and everything in his path. Looks great. Totally cracked up when I saw it. Great redunduring too!
-
@Johanna-Kim @NelliA thank you! I’ll be making a few tweaks to it before sending it in for the competition, but overall I am very pleased with how it has turned out. I’m glad you like it!
-
@laurasketches It's beautiful and I think it's great for this forum. Beautiful storytelling.
-
Hopefully this isn’t too late. It’s alright if it is though. I’m just really swarmed as of the moment. I hope you guys like it though. Thank you
-
@artbytra Love the retro vibe of this!
-
@kathrynadebayo i absolutely love you pencil shading on this one. Did you do this by hand? It’s amazing! I also love your concept. You could call it ‘Beadroom Zoo’ or something.
-
@laurasketches i love the level of watercolor skill on this one. This is watercolor i wished to achieve but never really fully realized. I also love the sunrise/sunset lighting. It highlights the ‘slow’ time of the day.
-
@jon-anderson haha this is so adorable. This reminds of the art style of the books I had as a kid. I hope your smowman finds his arm soon.
-
@sarah-luann i love your wood engraving-esqe looking on this piece. Plus the colors really emphasize the mood.
-
@nyrrylcadiz I'm glad you got your piece posted, Nyrryl! I was watching for it. Yes, it's just pencil done traditionally. I tweaked the colors on the computer, which interestingly helped me see where it seems like I could improve the contrast of some of the values (next time I try this style). Always learning!
-
@kathrynadebayo I love what you did. I also did pencil shading a bit last year. I just loved the texture. After I’d shade the drawing tradionally, I would then scan and color it digitally. I like the effect. It’s just took too much time for me though. Lol... That’s why I’m really drawn to your piece.

@whitney-simms Thank you! I am returning to illustration after a long hiatus, so it is very confidence building to hear that someone likes my work. (however, seeing it onscreen, I'm aware of all the hard edges that I wish were softer). Ego Ally is absolutely charming. Lovely choice of color palette.
-
@nyrrylcadiz thank you for your kind words. (as I have not yet figured out how to paint digitally I will admire your work with the same regard.)
-
@eli Thank you so much! I had thought about how to include the bottle of poison as a foreshadowing of what is to come in the story...but I couldn't decide where to put it in...
