What do you want to learn?
-
What would be really beneficial for me are smaller and yet, more specific lectures in the similar vein to your "Drawing Robots and Machines" and "Drawing Villains and Monsters" videos. Hearing someone spend 3-4 hours just talking about core principles on specific things would be fantastic.
If I may, here's a couple of suggestions for lectures:
Costumes and Clothing Construction
Weaponry
Architecture for Artists -
A class on the business of art, pricing work, and working with clients would be greatly appreciated!
-
agree with @Rob-Smith - @Jake-Parker Also, not sure if this was mentioned already, but "personal branding". Super important topic!

I would love to learn how to cleanly edit traditional art on the computer -- I want to learn a bridge between traditional and digital art.
Nothing fancy, but a great example is what I've seen on the 3rd Thursday critiques: the paint-overs that Will Terry and Lee White did last week were excellent, and Lee White gave some pointers on how he does it, but I'd really love for a full class on it (not a huge class, maybe five sessions). Another example is what Jake Parker did with his promo Rocket Raccoon sketch, turning it from something spanning two pages in a little drawing book to making it an awesome poster -- that is what I want to learn.
The class could also touch on scanners (kinds, settings, etc.) and printers. (So, going from traditional to digital, and from digital to physical.)
I paint with watercolors, and it just isn't practical to risk messing up when it's 80% done and I have to start all over. I know digital isn't magic, but I have not seen a class like this offered, just tutorials on how to fix the contrast/levels etc.
Thank you!

What do you want to learn?
- Developing a portfolio and approaching agents
What class or classes would you like to see in the future?
- Jake and a few other artists taking an image from start to finish
What class have we done already that you'd like to learn more on?
I enjoy classes where I see the artist go from start to finish. But as said above, would
love info on developing a portfolio and approaching agents. What artists would you like to see demonstrate their approach or techniques?
-Sam Neilson
- Zac Retz (But only if you could convince him to paint in a size where it is possible to actually see what he is doing lol.)
- Marco Bucci
- Any other artist that works digitally but looks traditional

Hi Jake,
Here are my thoughts
What do you want to learn?
To Draw/Paint any and everything my mind can imagine.
What class or classes would you like to see in the future?
Figure/animal/Anatomy courses.
Designing Vehicles
- For Land, Space, Water, War...
Designing Aliens - New species, Maybe even the extent of creating a whole planets ecosystem and culture.Designing Technology - Weapons, tools, and inventions
Elementary Curriculum - I have watched pretty much all Will and your You tube videos and am currently going through your SVS series one at a time. One thing Will and I think you have said in the past is that currently the elementary and secondary school systems are lacking in fundamental art instruction. Have either of you thought about creating some series specifically targeted at elementary students and or Teachers. If you did it could be a great resource for teachers or whole schools or school systems to subscribe to. Especially in elementary where there aren't usually dedicated art teachers.
What class have we done already that you'd like to learn more on?
Comics - Graphic novels. (I'll admit I haven't got to the Drawing Comics course yet but I love the art form and the more info the better)
What artists would you like to see demonstrate their approach or techniques?
I love watching all the current instructors. If I was to suggest other art heroes I would say Kazu Kibuishi, Sean Galloway, Skottie Young, Lois Van Baarle, Dave Guertin and Greg Baldwin.
Thanks!

I'd really like to see a class on using Illustrator. It's a program that I use quite a bit at work but would like to see some more advanced techniques and maybe some different approaches to illustrating in it. Also, any classes that deal with the business side of things and how to build your personal brand and style.
-
Hi Jonathon,
I'm building the business class up right now. Hopefully be out in january.
-
I would love to see a gesture drawing class, as well as human and animal anatomy.
-
I wish y'all had a course, like Kathryn said, on finding your "style" or at least tips on how to discover it. I'd also benefit from a quick Tips and Tricks class in Photoshop. .
-
@Lee-White OMG awesome I need that class.
-
Your style will naturally develop over time.
-
I have nothing to say that hasn't already been said, I just want to say that I will definitely be taking that business class as soon as it is avaliable. That is what I want and need.
And maybe this would be somewhere way down the road, but as someone who works almost exclusively in Illustrator and feels pretty proficient in it, I wish there was an advanced class in illustrator that I could take. But of course that probably wouldn't happen until after there were some basic illustrator/vector classes, which I would be less interested in (but hey, maybe there are some basics I don't know yet.)
I have become even more interested in a high-quality advanced Illustrator after seeing a preview video that was supposed to advertise an advanced course in illustrator which really frustrated me, because I saw the program being used extremely poorly, with a video that was done kind of unprofessionally. From what I've seen of how you guys do things, if you created an Illustrator course it would be much higher quality.

Hey Jake!
I'd really like to get better at cartooning. I've read a lot of books but they're not the same as learning by seeing, especially art. I would love to see you guys teach how to cartoonize things. I came from a comicbook background, learning to draw the Marvel way and tend to make things more realistic. I have a hard time making things cartoony. This is something that would be great to learn. I know you guys touched on it a little in dynamic poses and the children's book class, but a separate class focusing on cartooning would be awesome.
Thanks!

I know most people already know this but I would love to see a step by step tutorial of how you make the book dummy that you made on Photoshop in your Illustrating Children's Books class. How do you set the bleed lines and the gutter (I think that's what it is called). I just want to see how to put the whole draft together to send to someone please!

More courses with tradition media like water color, a lot of folks like myself have no idea how to operate programs like photoshop and paintshop, or don't have the money to buy an artist tablet, or they just enjoy working in their respective traditional mediums.
A lot of the courses offered are using the digital technology, I would like to see a balance of traditional courses offered, as well. For example, the Painting hair and fur, is digital only, I would love to know how to do so in watercolor.
Thank you for putting the question out there, hope to see lots of replies!

@Thrace-Shirley-Mears
I second that! Not that many books out there that goes over step by step on how to develop and send out a dummy to the publishers.
-
especially animal and the various types of them, in various poses, positions and perspectives. I have the class about posing the characters but there are not enough examples of different animals and the perspectives. Good starter class, though!
-
@CGRaine Yes I know. Unfortunately I need to see how to do it in Photoshop. Maybe he could do both!
-
I think maybe doing a few mock projects would be cool to see. Your process when trying to come up with ideas. For instance, a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. Going through:
- Character design
- Set design
- Designing key moments
- Colour palettes,etc.
Maybe also doing designing for specific mediums. Like designing a character for Flash, is different than designing a character for CG, or childrens books.
