JUNE CONTEST: A very different kind of prompt!
-
Here's my submission. This was a really interesting challenge to try and think of the context as if a client came up to you and gave you a narrative.
I had a few different sketches and what I think might have been more interesting illustrations, but I scrapped them all and went back to what I might want to see to help give context to the whole thing if I were to read it in an editorial. So hopefully that's what ultimately comes across.
P.S. Did anyone else have to re-draw Bongo? I swear it was difficult to not make him look either evil or creepy lol.
-
@jdubz Love, love your lighting! ...and my Bongo definitely started out creepy. I hated it so much that I took down my first entry and redid the entire thing
-
@jdubz I really love the background!
-
@sarahlash @deborah-Haagenson thanks I appreciate the kind words. @sarahlash I think this was monkey #4. I think the last one I ended up repainting near the end because he just didn't fit the mood at all
-
This month was super challenging for me! So many solid fails in my sketchbook that I'm hoping will translate to better projects in July And I've LOVED looking through everyone's take on Will's prompt. You all are amazing.
-
I really enjoyed the prompt this month. Hereβs my entry of a clever little monkey scheming his way over to a tree full of ripe oranges.
As always, best of luck to everyone and I canβt wait to see whatβs brought Into the arena!
-
@Jordi-Ventura Wow! I love how this looks Very cool direction.
-
@Johanna-Kim Super cute! I don't know why, but I absolutely love the alligator in the background with its eye open
-
@Melanie-Ortins this is SO cool! What a great image Melanie. I really dig this style.
-
@Dima-Eichhorn Very cool concept for the prompt! It makes me very curious to see how you would illustrate the rest of the story.
-
@miranda-hoover Thanks! Yes, that's my favorite part. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, that my favorite part is such a teeny tiny detail. It would be better if the larger action was what I liked best, but I'll consider that for the next piece:)

Hi Everyone!
Here's my June Contest entry. I chose to go with the opening scene where Bongo is just waking up!
-
Hello there I am new on svslearn. I'm looking forward to taking some courses, level up and participate in challenges
See there are many amazing and creative artworks for the month of June, many Bongo's and Clyde's I think Bongo is in som serious monkey-problems this month
Hope my Clyde isn't too scary for a children's book illustration![alt text]( image url)
-
@Johanna-Kim That's a good point. But there is also something very charming about subtle background elements that steal your heart
-
@miranda-hoover hi, thanks Miranda. Actually, it is a wonderful idea. May be I can make 2 more images- for the main story parts.
-
Hereβs my entry for this months contest. I never do landscapes so I hope this looks decent!
-
So lovely to see everyone's take on the same story!
Here's my entry.
