Hi from the England!

Hi Guys! Just wanted to say a quick hi! I've known about the SVS for ages but only just officially joined few weeks ago! It's exciting and a little bit daunting at the same time...well very daunting after looking at the incredible work all of you guys are producing!
I've always been painting and drawing but only in last year or so I've started looking at it a bit more seriously, hoping that one day (when or if I grow up I'd become a children's book illustrator/author. I love the "scratchy" style with a bit of watercolour splash but hoping to explore and develop my skills in more "polished" style too! I've also started experimenting with Procreate. I have got A LOT to learn! Perspective is my arch-enemy!

@AnnaFleet Welcome, sister of the APL (Anti Perspective League). Just a day or so ago, I posted my Classwork from @davidhohnβs Basic Perspective course. Definitely a great class to get you started on fighting the good fight. Letβs throw down our common enemy, until he falls from a high place and breaks the mountainside where heβll smite it in his ruin. (If you can tell me where this loosely quoted quote is loosely quoted from, you win a free trip to the Maldives [excluding airfare, hotel, and any miscellaneous costs and fees]).
All this to say that SVS is a great place, with many incredibly talented artists, and a welcoming and supportive community.
Enjoy!

PS: Lovely drawing!

@Casual-T thank you!
Yes I did look at the perspective class and it'll be one of the first ones I'll be taking ...as soon as I'm back from the Maldives that is JRR Tolkien - didn't have to Google it either!
Wish me luck! -
Welcome! I haven't got much to offer advice wise, just wanted to say to say greetings from a fellow Brit in sunny Gloucestershire! How the Corona lock down treating you? Least we get a bit of time to do a bit of drawing hey!
Love your style BTW! And i wouldn't worry too much about perspective, its all about value so i'm told!
-
@gavpartridge Thank you! I'm up on North Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire border we're in a small rural town - honestly never seen so many people out taking "advantage" of a daily excerisce allowance
Also not sure how people manage to get bored - like you said - plenty of time for drawing, painting and all that! I teach in primary school as well so have to go to work once a week on a Rota basis but inbetween I'm planning on making the most of SVS lessons I reckon I'll have a nice stash of paintings by the end of this lockdown -
Hi! Welcome

@burvantill Thank you! So many exciting courses....not enough hours in a day

My mother used to say "If 24 hours a day ain't enough, you gotta work nights, too!"

Hello and welcome! Perspective was once my arch enemy too! I can't say we are friends now exactly, but I'm on better terms with it now. Hope to see you around.
-
@Casual-T Genius!!! love it...think I need a t-shirt with this on
-
Thank you @TessaW! Nowhere near ready to post any of my work here yet but I will be asking for critique for sure when the time comes!
-
Welcome! Your style is really cute! I think you will surprise yourself how quickly you'll improve when you start learning in a more structured way. That's been my experience at least. I'm new here too, also taking advantage of all this free time in UK lockdown haha. (btw - we're both brits, both named Anna and both work in a primary school...are we the same person? haha)
-
hi! Welcome to the forum.
-
@Annabishop Thank you for the welcome message! OMG! Wow yeah, I think Iβm seeing double too which part of uk are you from?
If thereβs one thing good about this lockdown itβs my drawing skills getting better! I cannot wait for it to stop though as I know itβs not so good for many Iβm still working once a week at school which is a nice change, how about you? -
@Nyrryl-Cadiz thank you! Canβt wait to get stuck in!
-
@AnnaFleet Haha hello twin! I'm from Norwich, I recently moved to Cambridge though. Yeah I totally feel you, trying to stay positive and see the silver linings but I'm devastated that I'll be out of work for who knows how long. I've not been put on our school's rota since I'm employed through an agency to give 1-2-1 support to pupils and the school can't afford to keep paying agency staff right now. Hopefully I'll be getting that lovely furlough allowance we keep hearing about - fingers crossed!
-
@Annabishop Fingers (and toes) crossed it doesn't last that long....let's focus on positives and all the amazing work we can create in that time!
