Hello from the UK!

Hi everyone! I'm Anna. I'm so glad I stumbled across this forum, it seems like such a lovely and helpful art community!
I've been working on and off part-time doing small freelance illustration commissions along side my day job for a couple years now. Recently I've been feeling a bit directionless and lacking a clear approach to improving my skills, building my portfolio and reaching out to new clients or agencies.
Finding SVS and the podcast has really given me the kick up the arse I needed to be a bit more intentional with organising myself and planning pieces to fill the gaps in my portfolio. It's also made me aware that since leaving uni (art school) I don't seek nearly enough feedback and critique on my work from other artists.
Here's my portfolio site: www.anna-bishop.com
I'd love to hear any feedback you have! Good or bad, don't hold back I need to hear it!

Hi @Annabishop! Welcome to the forum. I'm fairly new to SVS myself, but I'm guessing it's never to early to say hello. SVS is definitely a wonderful resource when it comes to improving your art skills, and the forum is full of welcoming , knowledgeable, and helpful people. I'm sure you'll benefit much from hanging around this place.

@Annabishop
Hello Anna and welcome,
I've looked through your work and my favourite has to be the boy in the bathtub (and his bath bubble friend). It has a grandness and energy to it, I also like your colours.

Welcome to the forms, Anna! Thanks for sharing your work!! Getting more feedback and critique on one's work from other artists is something I need to work on too! What's your favorite subject to illustrate?

@Casual-T Thank you! I hope we can both learn and grow from being part of this community

Hello! Welcome to the forum

@Heather-Boyd Hi Heather! Thank you for the feedback. I'm wondering if the energy has something to do with using a brush pen? Maybe I need to get over my reluctance to using brush pens, I find them quite unforgiving and difficult to work with. Should probably take Jake Parker's inking class - his inking is really next level.

@MelissaJacie Hi Melissa! It can be really daunting asking for a critique, definitely worth it though! Ooh I think I like illustrating silly scenes. As a kid my drawings seemed to have the running theme of 'things going wrong'- probably inspired by reading BEANO comics. How about you?

@eriberart Thank you! Just had a peak at your website and I love your work it's so cute and lively!

@Georgios-Christopoulos Thank you Georgios! These are scary time we're living through, trying to stay positive and use quarantine to focus on creating (instead of obsessively checking the news!). Hope you and your family are staying safe.

@Nyrryl-Cadiz Hi! Thank you

I'm sure we can... I'll race ya to the top!
Although, I'm afraid you have a bit of an unfair advantage. You already have a bunch of really cute art on your website, which implies that you're way ahead of me. I guess I better snap to it, and start catching up...

@Annabishop Hi Anna, and welcome. I'm pretty new too.
-
@Casual-T Haha you're gonna bring out my competitive side, bring it on! Considering how slowly I draw you have a pretty good chance of overtaking me tbh
-
@jsnzart Hi! Thanks! The caricatures on your instagram are really impressive btw
-
@Annabishop Thank you very much.

Well, I'm guessing I'm still a good ways behind you, but if you hear someone huffing and puffing, coming up the hill, it might very well be me...
