I would make the front characters a little bigger and try to overlap them some.

@Katherine Thank you for the compliment on my work!! I'm so glad my post did not seem negative to you.. i almost deleted it after i wrote it because it seemed unhelpful and possibly damaging. I love Tom Waits - I listened to that NPR interview with Tom Waits 18 'ish years ago!

Hi Chris I think it looks really nice though there are three elements that are about the same size and all are craving for attention making the eyes jump all over the place and not knowing where to focus on. I'm guessing the blue mushroom on the front is your focal point so the character next to it could be a bit smaller (since it's about the same size) and/or less bright so it doesn't compete with the mushroom's light (something like the smaller blue character on the far right would work better on him). Or you could make the yellow character be the main focus so removing some of the brightness on the blue mushroom would make him stand out much more. I would also try making the mushroom house much smaller so it looks farther away and also making it less bright as well, also could be positioned a bit more to the right so it kind of balances the scene a bit more. The water looks really nice but I would also add some darker shading the farther it is from the main mushroom. One trick you can use is to add a new layer in multiply mode on top and paint with a 15% dark blue on most parts as to add some ambience and reducing the lighting on most of the objects (minus the main focus one). Hope something of this is helpfull to you .

@carlianne Thank you! I feel like there is so much to learn and expand over. I'm currently trying to relook at my artwork and work on stuff missing out from my pieces and these pointers are very insightful and helpful.

Hi @Tom-Burchell. I really like your illustrations. You have a very fun style! I like that Wix and Adobe Portfolio let you have rows of images instead of columns, something I've yet to figure out with Squarespace. I also really like that you've got the "heart" feature for you images. A few thoughts after checking out your site. I noticed that on each of the artwork tabs (Illustrations, Character Design and Picture Books) you have an "orphan" image at the bottom in its own row. Not a huge deal, but in my research I've found that it tends to look a little unfinished in the presentation of your portfolio. Reformatting the row so that there are no single images (or taking one image out) will make the whole illustration "block" a little more pleasing to the eye. I like your "About" page and that it's more personal and casual (I do something similar in mine). The only thought I had while reading it is that the display font you use and is a little hard to read. That typeface is great for your tab titles, etc., but I'd consider a more readable font when typing long paragraphs, to keep the reader interested. Other than that, it looks great! Hope this helps! Josh

@Nyrryl-Cadiz Thank you! I am glad you liked the fun facts. Yes, I am now considering which market I'd like to focus on and am realizing how important it is, so I can create a more united portfolio. I will definitely post more on the forum when I have more questions! Thank you for your help!

@Zachary-Drenski said in Critique requested portfolio work: @Lobalyss Keep making great art! Thank you ! I will ! @Laurasketches said in Critique requested portfolio work: I think your work has a lovely, simple, graphic feeling. I did notice on your website that your images take a long time to load-consider smaller files or compression? I'm not a techie, but I do know that load time matters. Best of lucK! Thank you for your opinion ~ I thought about it one day and I guess I totally forgot to change the file size, thank you have noticed me that

Super fun concept (I love steampunk-y dirigibles, I have one in my portfolio too and it looks like you already have some great feedback. These forums are a great place for getting critiques, and its especially awesome when one of the instructors drops in lucky you! My only comment is your linework seems a little big inconsistent to me--its definitely all there on your dirigible and the dad and the house, but in places like the backpack and the bushes it looks more rendered. Variation in line work can be OK as long as there is some consistency and rhyme and reason to why things are different, which I'm not seeing in the way you have it right now.
