10 year challenge
-
I saw this going around on Twitter so thought it would be fun to post here! Pick a piece of artwork from 2009 (or as old a piece you can find if you don’t have one from 2009) and redraw it!
Here’s mine:
Well at least I stopped abusing the burn tool on Photoshop I was 14 when I drew the first picture! And a big fan of Harry Potter, I think that was my OC at the time
-
@eriberart I'm gonna have to do some diggin' for anything from 2009... I'm hoping there's a date in my sketchbooks somewhere, lol
-
@Braden-Hallett I have to admit, I think my old one is from 2010! But close enough . All I could find from 2009 was drawings of Gaia Online avatars hahaha
-
I really dig how the updated piece is rendered! And the looseness of your linework reminds me a little of one of my favourite illustrators: Quentin Blake.
-
I love seeing these! Thanks for sharing. The first piece is quite expressive and charming- the second one is also expressive and charming and shows how much you've grown artistically. Love it.
-
@Basil-Godevenos Thank you! What a compliment
@TessaW Thank you Tessa
-
I think i might have something that old actually. I’ll definitely do some digging.
-
@eriberart I been meaning to do this. Thanks for the kick do get going. Great growth you had!
-
@Chip-Valecek Thanks! Looking forward to seeing yours
@Aleksey Please do! It's great looking through old work and seeing how far you have come
-
I was in AmeriCorps in 2009 so I don't think I did ANY art. You said older was ok; is the challenge meaning:
I should find something older than 2009 and redraw it even if it's 15-20 years ago?
I should redraw something, say, from 2014 and make it a 5-yr challenge? This would be more productive for me. -
@Amanda-Bancroft which ever you prefer! I actually picked something from 2010 cause I had nothing interesting from 2009
-
@eriberart Finally, I got around to redrawing an older piece "Cupful of Bunnies" from 2016 (at left) and 2020 (at right).
Not 10 years but more of a 5 years challenge. Still I really like the idea of seeing progress and having the chance to redo something. I had to rush at the end, because of deadlines, so I'm not 100% satisfied that the redraw is my current best effort, but Finished Not Perfect right?
-
@eriberart This is really cool! Such awesome progress. I am doing something similar with an older piece of mine. I'll remember to share in the forums when I finish! You have developed such a great style, too!
-
Hi @eriberart, what a great reflection!
I stopped drawing everyday when I was about 9 because of poor grades, but here’s my very first digital illustration on October 2018 some 30 years later (after getting the illustration itch), compared to a recent illustration this year. Needless to say, SVS and this community have really helped me progress!

This looks fun! I'm going to try to find something really cringe-worthy from 10 years ago
-
I was just starting college but also found work late high school. Just need to narrow down to one though I may try more because I still like some of the ideas just add a bit more kid friendly to them. A lot of them are drawings though.
-
@ArtofAleksey did you ever find one and do this? I didn’t realize this was a year old lols
-
@Chip-Valecek did you end up doing one of these too?
-
@Heather-Boyd no i havnt done this! I know i talked about it i should totally do it.
-
What a great idea @eriberart and great progress over time! Are you going to do this more often? I see the post is from back in November, maybe you can draw the same image every year haha!
@Amanda-Bancroft Looks great!
That's awesome, @Jeremy-Ross!Thanks to this topic I found this gem gathering dust in my files
This was the first picture book I "illustrated" for an amateur writer. As an amateur illustrator haha. I wasn't able to find all of the drawings, but the story was about a duck that had abnormal feet. It was a picture book with A LOT of text and black and white spot drawings.
I painted the cover in Paint Shop Pro
The illustrations were made with graphite pencil and I did not yet know how to create a transparent background.Oh my. Maybe I will pick one of the illustrations to draw again.
