Hi guys! This is where some of us are working through How To Ink 2.0 in the weeks running up to Inktober! There are 3 weeks to get through the meatier bits of the course, which gives us just enough time ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Everyone's welcome to participate, but in order to have access to the classes and homework you need an SVS subscription. It's worth it.

If you wanna join and want to catch up, feel free to check out week one here: https://forum.svslearn.com/topic/7905/how-to-ink-2-0-group-runthrough-week-1/123

Feel free to do digital or traditional. It's all good.

This week it's time to explore light and value and all that entails when interacting with local value! SORCERY!

      Watch:

'light and shadow' series of videos. Three vids!

      Homework:

-Make yourself a series of gradient scales using some of your favourite hatching techniques.

-Render at least three cubes. A cube that has a light local value, a cube that has a mid local value, and a cube that has a dark local value.

-Apply your gradient to a sphere.

Extra special awesome homework that the hyper-intelligent marmot people of Zebulon Six consider heretical and is punishable by hard labour in the clover mines :

-Render some objects that have a mix of lighter and darker values (such as a cube with a dark stripe running around it)

      -Render a reflective object

-Apply this newfound sorcery to a drawing of your own or one of the drawing pack sheets.

Feel free to post comments/questions/homework and ask for feedback here ๐Ÿ˜ƒ !

      And have fun ๐Ÿ™‚

      ๐Ÿ–Š

          Today's practice. gradient is touch.
I am in love with sumi brush: there is just so much ways to make different textures with one sumi brush.

messing around with nip pen and sumi brush combination. looks like I will need to re-paint this a lot more times to get something decent. ๐Ÿ˜„ let me know if you guys has some tips on working with this particular combo.

@xin-li I really like the scratchy wash 'pulls' in the bottom right of the second page. I can see those being the start of an awesome tree line, or a nice grungy texture ๐Ÿ™‚

I feel like I'm starting to forget a few of things I've learned ๐Ÿ™‚ But at the same time there's still an onward and upward improvement!

Does finishing my September piece count as practice? I did ink! And I created textures and tones. The Marmot people might be sending me to mine clover.

Finishing your September piece absolutely counts (I saw it on instagram, I think!) Though I must admit the marmot people are unforgiving... And relentlessly fuzzy... The fuzz... It haunts me still... ๐Ÿญ

@Braden-Hallett i think starting on week 1 is a good idea ๐Ÿ™‚ i will catch up to you guys eventually ๐Ÿ™‚ by the way i am using a kuretake zig brush pen and I noticed the bristle tip is already slightly bent due to wear and tear perhaps?. Do other brush pens have this issue as well?

                            Light and shadow day 1...
I got home late from work last night so I did day 1 this morning, and I phoned it in. I will do day 2 tonight. I have to say, having a day job really hampers my drawing time. ๐Ÿ˜

Tryin' to bump the lamp in my own little ways and push myself ๐Ÿ™‚

It irritates me that shading and hatching needs to be just as tactical and well thought out as contour lines and all the rest of it ๐Ÿ™‚ i just wanna chicken scratch the hatching in. Ugh.

But all this practice and drawin' when we don't wanna draw is really payin' off ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Iโ€™ve fallen quite behind this past week due to taking on another project for a friend but Iโ€™m trying my best to keep my head above water and stay accountable to you guys. Hereโ€™s todayโ€™s warm up. I need to add some more pieces in there and catch up on this weekโ€™s video but one step at a time for now.
